Dialogue is fun. But the vote is pointless because it isn't fair ( I mentioned number of seats in Ottawa of the provinces versus their populations before), nor does it matter after election day because whoever gets in is an instant dictator.

Canadians have witnessed billions of dollars stolen wasted and mismanaged by successive Canadian governments. We’ve watched the Conservatives “ram down our throats” (Brian Mulroney) commenting on the GST…

The worst thing Mulroney did was increase the debt by about $450 billion.

We’ve watched Jean Chretién symbolically tear up a piece of paper while while saying… “Da GHestTEE…gone!” Sure….bullshyte.
Chretien certainly imtended to scrap the GST until he found out how much money it brought in.

HRDC an arguable amount but in the neighbourhood of a billion…gone.
The money was not gone. It was spent on thousands of little make work projects all over Canada in a time of recession. The woman running the damn thing just didn't do all the paperwork and was fired for it. The auditor general reckoned that 90 percent of the money could be accounted for.

Millons (55 million if memory serves) lost and wasted on computers for the DND.

Millions to Chretién’s buddies in Quebec…ADSCAM.
Again ADSCAM wasn't all bad. Chretien was countering separatist ads run by the PQ.

Millons on helicopter purchasing contract defaulted on by the government with hundreds of millions in penalties paid by Canadian taxpayers.
This was downright stupid. About a $500 million dollar penalty for cancelling an order for helicopters that we needed.

Millions on submarines that sink, catch fire…require upgrades (using technology that’s fifteen years old…)

Billions on a gun registry of absolutely no value of any kind.
I don't know what the total cost is for this shmozzel is, but we already had an adequate gun registry.

The list is lengthy…and virtually nothing done and no jail time worth mentioning handed to our “leaders” who avow responsibility to the electorate…

I have a solution and surely in a “democracy” the voice of the people would be heard and measures taken…right????

Let’s turn the tables on the thieves in Ottawa and Toronto…they (provincial governments and federal governments employ a “claw-back” on disability and other social benefits when there’s an over-lap…

On the basis of an independent audit, the amount of money squandered by politicians would be deducted from the pension pool these scoundrels live off for years after they’ve screwed everyone….

No matter if Lieberal Konservative or the Marijuana Party….the sitting government wastes loses squanders, mismanages etc. some few millions or billions…that same amount is deducted from MPP and MP’s pension plans…

Think that any slimey Canadian politician would care to be held accountable and actually support this kind of measure?

Sure and pigs can fly…

Canadian politicians are no better, or no worse than their counterparts in other countries. We have our crooks but so do other countries.

Idon't like to diagree Jaun but I believe that there are better politicians sprouting up as we speak in fact the process of producing better politicians never stops, but we seem to loose them at a rate far faster than the bad ones. Could there be some devilment at work behind the scene bent on elimination of the favourites of the people? While I sometimes become disheartened myself I would never give up, might as well swallow the poison in that case.

My son called me from unionvercity (SFX) yesterday , I think, looking for a book he'd lent me, he tells me he's joined the communist party, oh jubalation, oh joy, DarkBeaver's little boy has become RedBeaver, he's only been there two years and a bit and he's a success already.

The revolution is alive , it's never stopped for a minute , the normal ebb and flow causes many of us to loose heart and surrender , booze, drugs, death, surrender to these is forgivable surrender to the machine is not.
If you give up they win, even if you think and talk change we win. The day will come so keep a candle in the window or garlic arround your neck or whatever it takes.

We need a simple protest. No petitions. Everyone should write their MP and say they would like the Canadian government to recess. Not meet again until all ridings in Canada have elected candidates to attend a constituency assembly to discuss the remodelling of Canadian government. Canadian style democracy simply doesn't work. It's an embarrassment. Groups in Ottawa should organize to block entrance to the House of Commons while we get our CA going. A grassroots revolution hopefully conducted peacefully.

This is not Canadian style democracy, it is a left over from British rule. Sometimes we do elect new vibrant candadates but when the get to the House the old guard hogties and gags them. What we need to do is find a way to get rid of them, because we have some good people in politics but they cannot do anything.

So Andy are you agreeing that Canadians don't have the temperament to participate in a democratic system...that they need to be led by a monarch or a president or a dictator....no thinking allowed!!?

Not temperment but audacity. Monarchist systems rub off certain characteristics on the people after hundreds of years of doing what they are told. It was the same fear that gripped the loyalists below the border, "how can we do it without the King?". Someday they will have the courage to cut the apron strings, but then they will need to shake off that gremlin on their collective shoulder that gives them shelter from risk and from concepts only the brave are allowed in trying something entirely new, like democracies and dreams of liberty.

Well, not quite. If one looks at the politics in Switzerland, for instance, one notices that politicians know they are at the mercy of the public. So the last word in matters is from the people. That's just one place that seems fairly devoid of scandals and corruption. Theere are several.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/gov_cor-government-corruption Um, 10 is the best and 0 is the worst. We aren't too bad but there's definitely room for improvement.

Doesn't anyone ever get tired of that squirmy "answer"...

"Well yup there's billions being wasted stolen and lost but hey there's governments everywhere that do that...SO IT'S NO USE GETTING UPSET ABOUT IT...."

Move that rationalization into the real world ...

Yes my boy shot three people and robbed a convenience store...but hey there's robberies and murder all over the place...NO REASON TO GET UPSET OVER ANYTHING....

OK so my son raped your daughter and stole your car....but hey there's rapes and car thefts all over the place ..NO REASON TO GET UPSET OVER ANYTHING...

In fact yes terrorists did destroy the World Trade Center but hey there's terrorism all over the place..NO REASON TO GET UPSET OVER ANYTHING...

Champion of mediocrity and land of "Happiness is acepting ineptitude and corruption as the normal exercise of democracy and government."

Should anyone have even an inkling of a doubt regarding waiting lines in ER rooms, pan-handlers lining the sidewalks, body-bags from Afghanistan, global warming, drug firearms and gambling violence just relax....

So long as I'm not bothered personally by any of this chaos..who cares!

Canadians....dumber than shyte and happy in their ignorance....

You're on a roll this am Mikey!!! Exercised and Energized!!

Two honorable professions with no accountability in our democratic societies....and we actually go along with it.... no reportage..... no "outing"..... and we are silent.

Teachers and Politicians.....two of the most important and influential groups who can make or break a nation.

And they get a free pass from the majority of people who pay their salaries.

Mornin Ma'm (Curiosity)

I don't want anyone to think that I'm critical of our government...gosh noooooo.

Canadians are simply so happy to keep chasing their tails and whining and wimpering and complaining but when it comes to DOING something ...hey there's a hockey game on.....

I'd like everyone who's just so bursting with happiness with respect to how Canada continues to fall behind...pollution...poverty....self-defense....human rights....law and order..... to look on the bright side next time the shinola hits the fan in their lives...

All these pontificating experts deserve to suffer. Canada's problems aren't difficult to find or list, the difficulty is in getting people to identify who's most responsible....

Look in the mirror.

Hey Curio....There's no substance to the rumor that intelligence exists above the 49th parallel, but hey....there's bound to be a hockey game on somewhere.....

Haha Mikey - like I said you are Energized!!

Don't go looking for any smarties below the 49th.... we are in the same canoe!

I just read about Mahar Arar winning his lottery $11.5 million Cdn.....

You should try to get the U.S. to pay some of it since it was their idea to send him to Syria.

shhhhhhhh I didn't write that...

The largess I receive from this wonderful country over the past ten years is less than one hundred thousand dollars. I didn't break any laws nor am I an "evil-doer" unfortunate enough to be born in Syria or some other terrible place and then move...to CAnada...

Sign me up for a Syrian prison...it can't be a whole lot worse than living in a country for ten years that is populated by people happy at your suffering and prepared to ignore anything and everything that doesn't touch their lives...

A year of torture...in a Syrian prison...10..million bucks.

Ten years of second class citizenship surrounded by the mush-for-brains that participate here at Canadian Content....

Bring on the CIA CSIS and the RCMP...I'd like a shot at ten million....
