It was never 'down' to anybody except Trump from the minute he announced his intention to run. Aren't surprises wonderful?
Jinentonix; said:Wait a second, wait...a ...second! Are you all telling me that the Republican nomination is down to Jeb and Trump?
I had this conversation with my girlfriend recently, and we both remember vividly where we were and what we were doing that morning, who we were with and what we drove at that time. It was a day where you knew that the world was changing in front of you.I not only remember where I was, I remember much of the conversation.
Anyway, back on that day 25yrs ago, when the sky’s over America closed, and the planes in the air over America couldn’t land in…America…Canada accepted 224 separate flights (33,000 passengers) at 17 different airports and not just Gander Newfoundland.

On the afternoon of September 11, 2001, Trump spoke during a live phone interview with a local television station, and a reporter asked him if his property at 40 Wall Street had suffered any damage. Trump answered by discussing the height of his building. As documented by The New York Times, Trump said: "40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan... and now it’s the tallest."
Well, he lied about that too. Another nearby skyscraper, 70 Pine Street, was actually taller than 40 Wall Street, but that’s neither here nor there at this point I guess. Twenty-Five years later, an inappropriate moment of self-promotion during a major national tragedy or the memorializing of that event a quarter of a century later, he’s still doing the same thing.
Here we are a quarter of a century later with the current US president who was at home four miles away from Ground Zero in Manhattan claiming stolen valour (?Or something like it?) with 9/11, while Canada being America’s ally is being punished for not capitulating to Trumps coercive bullshit. Absolutely batty.
Anyway, I apologize for the sidetracked here and this really shouldn’t be about Trump even though the thread is about Trump and 9/11.
