"To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, Muppets, Klingons, left-handed dyslexics, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Trump said on Friday that he "sort of made up my mind" (?) on Venezuela, suggesting that a decision could come soon. The Venezuelan communications ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump's latest remarks.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela should be considered 'closed in its entirety,' without giving details, as Washington continues to ramp up pressure on President Nicolas Maduro's government.

Trump has repeatedly said US strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, which have killed more than 80 people, could develop into land action in the South American country, although he has also reportedly held a call with Maduro and discussed a possible US visit by the Venezuelan president.

Republican-led committees in the Senate and the House say they will amplify their scrutiny of the Pentagon after a Washington Post report revealing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave a spoken order to kill all crew members aboard a vessel suspected of smuggling drugs in the Caribbean Sea several weeks ago.

A live drone feed showed two survivors from the original crew of 11 clinging to the wreckage of their boat after the initial missile attack Sept. 2, The Post reported Friday afternoon. The Special Operations commander overseeing the operation then ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s directive, according to two people with direct knowledge of the operation, killing both survivors.
1764552988992.jpegThose people, along with five others in the original report, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.
Late Friday, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Jack Reed (Rhode Island), the committee’s top Democrat, issued a statement saying that the committee “is aware of recent news reports — and the Department of Defense’s initial response — regarding alleged follow-on strikes on suspected narcotics vessels.” The committee, they said, “has directed inquiries to the Department, and we will be conducting vigorous oversight to determine the facts related to these circumstances.”

The leaders of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Mike D. Rogers (R-Alabama) and Rep. Adam Smith (D-Washington), followed suit late Saturday. In a brief joint statement, the pair said they are “taking bipartisan action to gather a full accounting of the operation in question.” The committee, they noted, is “committed to providing rigorous oversight of the Department of Defense’s military operations in the Caribbean.”

After the publication of The Post’s report Friday, Hegseth wrote on X that “these highly effective strikes are designed to be ‘lethal, kinetic strikes,’” adding: “Every trafficker we kill is affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization.”

“Our current operations in the Caribbean are lawful under both U.S. and international law, with all actions in compliance with the law of armed conflict — and approved by the best military and civilian lawyers, up and down the chain of command,” he said.

Hegseth opened his post with a swipe at “the fake news,” which he said “is delivering more fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory reporting to discredit our incredible warriors fighting to protect the homeland.”
(YouTube & Legality of U.S. boat strikes in the Caribbean gets blurrier after latest Washington Post report)

In some closed-door briefings to lawmakers, the Pentagon has declined to bring lawyers who could help explain the legal rationale behind the strikes. There has been extensive frustration among some members of Congress — including some Republicans — at the lack of detail provided to Capitol Hill, ranging from the intelligence to support the strikes to the identities of the people killed.

Last month, Wicker and Reed made public two letters they previously sent to the Pentagon, requesting the orders, recordings and legal rationale related to the strikes. The Defense Department, they wrote in the rare public warning, had surpassed the time required by law to provide some of the materials.

That information would have included Hegseth’s order to kill everyone in the first strike and the video of the attack.

The Trump administration has justified the attacks by arguing that the U.S. “is in a non-international armed conflict” with traffickers, while the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel said in a classified memo that U.S. military personnel engaged in lethal action in Latin America would not be exposed to future prosecution.

But some current and former U.S. officials and law-of-war experts have said that the Pentagon’s lethal campaign — which has killed more than 80 people — is unlawful and may expose those most directly involved to prosecution.

The alleged traffickers pose no imminent threat of attack against the United States and are not in an “armed conflict” with the U.S., these officials and experts say. Ruh-roh!
(YouTube & Are the U.S. ‘Drug Boat’ Strikes in the Caribbean a War Crime?)

Under the circumstances The Post reported, “not only does international law prohibit targeting these survivors, but it also requires the attacking force to protect, rescue, and, if applicable, treat them as prisoners of war,” the group said in a statement circulated to news media. “Violations of these obligations are war crimes, murder, or both. There are no other options.”

The Joint Special Operations Command had said in briefing materials provided to the White House that the purpose of the “double-tap” strike was to sink the boat to avoid any navigation hazard to other vessels, according to one person who saw the report. Lawmakers received a similar explanation in two closed-door briefings, according to two congressional aides.

“The idea that wreckage from one small boat in a vast ocean is a hazard to marine traffic is patently absurd, and killing survivors is blatantly illegal,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Massachusetts) said in a statement to The Post.

Venezuela's National Assembly will form a special commission to investigate U.S. President Donald Trump's deadly strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats off the Venezuelan coast and in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the congressional body's president said on Sunday.

Speaking on state television, Jorge Rodriguez said the investigation would look into a Washington Post report on Friday that said U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered all people aboard one of the boats killed during a strike in September. A second strike was then carried out to kill two survivors, the report said.
"We are going to carry out a rigorous and deep investigation," Rodriguez told a press conference, adding that the country's prosecutor's office would be involved.

So White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command acted “within his authority and the law” when striking an alleged drug boat a second time on Sept. 2 after the first strike left survivors?

The White House has scrambled in recent days to respond to reporting that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered an elite military unit to kill everyone on board an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean in early September, leading the commander to send a second strike that killed survivors from the first attack.

Speaking to reporters in the press briefing room, Leavitt confirmed that Hegseth authorized Admiral Frank M. Bradley, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, to conduct the strikes. “Admiral Bradley worked well within his authority and the law, directing the engagement to ensure the boat was totally destroyed and the threat to the United States of America was eliminated,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt’s comments appear to contradict those made by Trump on Sunday, when he told reporters that he would not have wanted the military to launch a second strike to kill survivors from the first explosion.

Asked by a reporter aboard Air Force One if a second strike against survivors would be illegal, Trump said he didn’t know what happened and he’ll look into it. “But no, I wouldn’t have wanted that, not a second strike,” Trump said.

“The first strike was very lethal, it was fine, and if there were two people around—but Pete said that didn’t happen. I have great confidence in him,” Trump said.
The Sept. 2 strike was the first in a series of U.S. military attacks that have killed more than 80 people. Experts on the laws of war have pointed out that targeting alleged drug boats with military strikes isn’t legal because the U.S. is not at war with drug traffickers.🤔

But even if the US were at war with people on those boats, giving an order to kill everyone on board, even if they are no longer in a position to fight, would amount to a war crime, those experts say. Title 18 of the U.S. code, which covers "war crimes," includes as an example someone who " intentionally kills...one or more persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including those placed out of combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause."🙄

Does Trump respect that? Does the guy operating under Trump’s umbrella respect that? In the end, will it matter…at least for the next three years anyway?

Anywho, Franklin the turtle is a Canadian creation beloved by generations of children, so when U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth turned him into a bazooka-wielding soldier in a social media post Sunday, many people were alarmed.
1764643095581.jpeg
Hegseth's post featured a mock cover of a Franklin children's book titled "Franklin Targets Narco Terrorists." The image shows a smiling Franklin wearing a military helmet and vest and an American flag on his arm. He's standing in a helicopter, firing a weapon toward a boat carrying packages and a man holding a gun.
1764643112114.jpeg
"You're a disgrace," Massachusetts congressman Seth Moulton replied to Hegseth's post on X. "Where do I start on this? The fact that you want to sell a Canadian children's book? Or that you're going to get copyright infringed to hell … because Franklin isn't a murderer and you want kids to be taught to kill?" commented another critic.

So if this is murder, and I’m not the one saying it’s not, but if it is, why are they fighting over Franklin the Turtle?
Is Pete Hegseth worried about charges of murder (?) or copyright infringement on a Canadian children’s book? I wonder if Trump would issue Hegseth a pardon or two or eight or five?

Critics have questioned the legality of the strikes, and both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have pledged to look into them.

Reuters has reported the options under U.S. consideration include an attempt to overthrow Maduro, and that the U.S. military is poised for a new phase of operations after a massive military buildup in the Caribbean and nearly three months of strikes on suspected drug boats off Venezuela's coast. Trump also has authorized covert CIA operations in the country.
On Monday evening, Hegseth wrote a social-media post that said that the Sept. 2 attacks were Bradley’s decisions. Bradley being Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, the head of Special Operations Command.

President Trump is poised to terminate the CUSMA trade agreement with a single executive signature, spelling doom for Canada's economy. Projections indicate up to 400,000 jobs could vanish overnight, plunging the nation into a full-blown depression as cross-border trade—worth billions daily—grinds to a halt under crippling tariffs.

When Trump secures Venezuelan oil, Canada's leverage evaporates. The Great White North faces a stark binary: annexation as America's 51st state, or descent into a frozen, forsaken third-world wasteland, stripped of its resource edge and global relevance.

Good times. Wait! I thought this was all about narco terrorism, and extrajudicial murders, etc…?

Trump out here playing 4D chess while Canada’s still trying to figure out checkers with a missing piece.

Dude just quietly locks up Venezuelan oil, cranks the pumps, and suddenly Canada’s entire “we’ve got oil too eh” sales pitch sounds like Blockbuster bragging about VHS tapes in 2025.

Ten straight years of Liberal governance and Canada still doesn’t have a single four-lane highway from coast to coast. Bro, we’ve got moose crossing signs with better infrastructure planning. You can literally drive faster on a Saskatchewan grid road in February with black ice than you can on the Trans-Canada in some stretches.

Trump’s turning America into the OPEC of the Americas.

Trump’s turning America into the OPEC of the Americas.
Yeah, we’ve seen his ‘negotiation’ style over the last 10+ months.
What would be the reaction if it was China or Russia negotiating with Venezuela in the same manner? Trump moved an armada of a dozen naval ships into the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela, along with 15,000 U.S. troops. He’s declared Venezuelan air space closed and threatened to strike drug smuggling operations in the country. He’s spoken to Maduro by phone and, according to some reports, given him an ultimatum to leave the country…but what would your reaction be if this was any other country ‘negotiating’ in the same manner?

The thing about Venezuela is that it has vast oil resources — 303 billion barrels of proven reserves, the biggest in the world, and it belongs to…Venezuela. The other thing is that its oil is the same kind that Canada (Alberta) has — heavy crude as opposed to the “light, sweet crude” produced by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, among others.
Trump is nothing if not transparent in his 3D Chess with a complete lack of evidence of drug trafficking, and experts say Venezuela is not the main source of drugs such as cocaine being smuggled into the US…

Sounds…legitimate? Officials from President Donald Trump's administration have since said that Hegseth did not order the additional strike, and that Admiral Frank Bradley, who led the Joint Special Operations Command at the time, concluded the boat's wreckage must be neutralized because it “might” contain cocaine (or witnesses)?

The video of the attack shown to lawmakers showed two men clinging to wreckage after their vessel was destroyed, according to two sources familiar with the imagery.

They were shirtless, unarmed and carried no visible communications equipment, so clearly a threat to the whole nation of America 1500-ish miles away?

The Defense Department's Law of War Manual forbids attacks on combatants who are incapacitated, unconscious or shipwrecked, as long as they abstain from hostilities and do not attempt to escape. The manual cites firing upon shipwreck survivors as an example of a "clearly illegal" order that should be refused.

In response, the Venezuelan government in a statement accused the U.S. of "blatant theft" and described the seizure as "an act of international piracy". It said it would denounce the incident before international bodies.
"There is growing concern ... that in 2029 the ICC will turn its attention to the president, to the vice president, to the secretary of war and others, and pursue prosecutions against them," the Trump administration official said.

"That is unacceptable, and we will not allow it to happen."

US forces have seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, in a major escalation of Donald Trump’s four-month pressure campaign against the South American country’s dictator, Nicolás Maduro, whose government called the seizure “an act of international piracy”.
1765455008891.jpeg
“It was seized for a very good reason,” the US president added, declining to say who owned the vessel.

Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, posted footage of the seizure on X. The grainy, unclassified 45-second video shows US forces landing on the tanker from a helicopter.

In an accompanying statement, Bondi said the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations and the US Coast Guard, with support from the Department of Defense, had “executed a seizure warrant (???) for a crude oil tanker used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran”.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted its own video edit of the seizure, soundtracked with an excerpt from LL Cool J’s song Mama Said Knock You Out. DHS has repeatedly faced criticism for poaching music for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recruitment ads. DHS recently used a Sabrina Carpenter song, without permission, prompting the pop star to respond that the video was “evil and disgusting”.

LL Cool J did not immediately address the use of his song. Currently, that is all.
