Canada, whose abundant hydropower resources aid its metal production, accounted for nearly 80% of U.S. primary aluminum imports in 2024.
Who’s Trumps aluminum tariff really targeting? Who’s Trumps steel tariff really targeting? US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all aluminium and steel imports will have a limited effect on the Gulf region’s exports of these metals, although further clarity is needed assess the global impact, analysts say.
The top exporters of aluminium to the US in 2024 included Canada, with more than 3.15 million tonnes, the UAE (347,033 tonnes) and China (222,871 tonnes), according to US International Trade Administration data. South Korea and Bahrain rounded off the top five aluminium exporters to the US last year. The US also imports aluminium from Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the ITA data shows.

How many blast furnaces do we have making steel from Iron ore?

Is Trump only targeting “premium” aluminum (?) or all aluminum imports?
1 that makes steel so 1 steelmaker. The rest is recycled scrap.

You tell me. Is Trump all about bring manufacturing domestically back? Unification is "domestic" is it not? Is Canada attacking the USD? Are we steadfast in a Palestinian state? Are we a defiant OPEC energy producer in bed with a defiant Saudi Arabia, Russia and Iran?

I hope none! Blast furnaces? Why don't you use blacksmiths?

Open-hearth furnaces have been the best, cheapest way to make steel for 40 years and more. It's why the Japanese ate our lunch at steel-making.

The U.S. was built on partnership, on trust, on the idea that when North America works together, we all thrive. Trump may have forgotten that, but have U.S. leaders? Have U.S. businesses? Do they truly believe that an attack on their closest trading partner will come without consequences?

At the signing ceremony for the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, president Ronald Reagan said: “We recognize that we are truly the people of the New World with a common bond distinct on the globe. North Americans are bound in our vision, in our optimism and in our commitment to moving forward together. We settled this continent to change the world and this agreement proves we mean to keep on changing it for the better.”

Here we are today.

So what's the problem? Trump is making us "one people" in legal fact.

Well, all but them grubby wetbacks, of course.

Ok.

Why would we be when the big picture is going all out in NAFTA/USMCA 4 as a trade block to compete with BRICS? With no Russian (BRICS) or UAE(BRICS) aluminum in our markets the next step is obviously investing domestically to up production because we aluminun can.

As for steel, Canada has a massive steel trade deficit with the US.

The southern Mexicans as opposed to the northern Mexicans? Would that make the US the central Mexicans so we’re all one people?

So these tariffs that include Canadian & Mexican steel & aluminum are there to make a North American union stronger & more likely? Hearts & minds sorta thing?

What difference is that making in this situation?

Slow down there, ol' paint!

They need a 17th before they get started on the 18th.

Though you may have a point. They can probably do Bohemia and Moravia in one go.

Yes, what’s with the 51st State bullshit? In your video above, within the first 25 seconds of it?

Which one is it? Tight for time regarding homework assignments.

UAE is in the “other” category I’m assuming.

Off the top of my head? Close enough.

EU has its issues but it works. Even on the dark side of the Balkans.

No its not. Did you get any further or did you have another baseless anxiety attack?

Other as in premium. Should we be wiring our grid with wires made from recycled beer cans?
