Who is the man accused of trying to kill Trump in Florida?

KAAAWA, Hawaii — Ryan Wesley Routh portrayed himself online as a man who built housing for homeless people in Hawaii, tried to recruit fighters for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia, and described his support and then disdain for Donald Trump — even urging Iran to kill him.

“You are free to assassinate Trump,” Routh wrote of Iran in an apparently self-published book in 2023, “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War,” which described the former president as a “fool” and “buffoon” for both the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and the “tremendous blunder” of leaving the Iran nuclear deal.

Routh wrote that he once voted for Trump and must take part of the blame for the “child that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless.”

Routh, 58, was arrested Sunday and charged Monday after authorities say he stalked the GOP presidential nominee as he golfed in West Palm Beach, Florida, with an AK-47-style rifle in an apparent assassination attempt thwarted by the Secret Service.

Through his voluminous online footprint, public records, news interviews and videos, a picture emerged of Routh as a man with a criminal past, plenty of outrage and shifting politics.

His over 500 posts on X showed his views ranging from the left to the right, including support for politicians such as Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard and Nicki Haley, as well as Trump.

Voter records show he registered as an unaffiliated voter in North Carolina in 2012, most recently voting in person during the state’s Democratic primary in March.

Routh also made 19 small donations totaling $140 since 2019 to ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates, according to federal campaign finance records.

In a tweet in June 2020, after the police killing of George Floyd, Routh said then-President Trump could win reelection by issuing an executive order to prosecute police misconduct. However, in recent years, his posts appear to have soured on Trump, and he expressed support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee.

“DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose,” he wrote on X in April in support of Biden.

In July, following the assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, a post on Routh’s account urged Biden and Harris to visit those wounded in the shooting and attend the funeral of the firefighter who was killed.

“Trump will never do anything for them,” Routh wrote.

In his book, listed on Amazon and viewed by the AP, Routh noted: “I get so tired of people asking me if I am a Democrat or Republican as I refuse to be put in a category.”

The world would be better it were run by women, he wrote in the book that has links to his website and X account, because “it seems that the totality of the world’s problems revolve around men with massive insecurity and childlike intelligence and behaviour.”

He posted frequently on social media about Ukraine and other conflicts, and he had a website seeking to raise money and recruit volunteers to fight for Kyiv. A photo of the wiry, wild-haired Routh on his site shows him smiling, wearing a T-shirt and jacket adorned with U.S. flags.

“This is about good versus evil,” Routh said in a video circulating online. And in a tweet, he said, “I am going to fight and die for Ukraine.”

Video shot by the AP showed Routh at a small demonstration in Kyiv’s Independence Square in April 2022, two months after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of the country.

A placard he was holding said: “We cannot tolerate corruption and evil for another 50+ years. End Russia for our kids.”

That same day, he also visited a makeshift memorial to “Foreigners killed by Putin.”

But Routh never served in the Ukrainian army or worked with its military, said Oleksandr Shahuri of the Foreigners Coordination Department of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command.

Shahuri told AP that Routh periodically contacted the International Legion of Ukraine with what he described as “nonsensical ideas” that “can best be described as delusional.”

Routh appeared in a video standing in front of the U.S. Capitol and expressing frustration that Ukraine wasn’t taking more of the Afghan commandos he tried to recruit.

“They’re afraid that anybody and everybody is a Russian spy,” he told news website Semafor in 2023.

Earlier this year, he even tweeted at singers Bruno Mars and Dave Matthews to organize a “We are the World”-style effort for Kyiv. “We need an emotional tribute song for Ukraine as support stalls,” he wrote. “I have lyrics and music.”

Routh also tweeted to former basketball star Dennis Rodman, asking for help lifting sanctions against North Korea to ease tension with the country. In another, he invites a dozen protesters in Hong Kong to stay at his Hawaii home to escape a Chinese crackdown.

Routh lived most of his life in Greensboro, North Carolina, where his run-ins with law enforcement included a 2002 felony conviction for reportedly possessing “a fully automatic machine gun.” While court records don’t give details about the case, the Greensboro News & Record reported the arrest came after Routh ran from a traffic stop and held off police for three hours with the weapon at a roofing business. State records listed him as the business owner.

Records also show Routh was convicted of a felony count of possession of stolen goods in 2010, as well as misdemeanors including illegally carrying a concealed weapon, a hit-and-run, speeding and driving with a revoked license. Court records from the 2010 felony case say detectives determined Routh was storing stolen building supplies and other items at his roofing business warehouse, where he was living at the time. Money from the sale of the stolen goods was used to purchase crack cocaine, according to a police affidavit used to get a search warrant.

In both the felony cases, court records show judges sentenced Routh to either probation or a suspended sentence, allowing him to escape prison time.

It was not immediately clear how Routh was able to obtain a weapon. In most states, it is generally forbidden for a person convicted of a felony to purchase or possess a firearm.

In 2018, Routh moved to the small town of Kaaawa, Hawaii, about 45 minutes outside Honolulu, to go in business with his adult son building small wooden sheds. According to his LinkedIn page, the structures would “help address the highest homelessness rate in the United States due to unparalleled gentrification.”

“All of us are tired of seeing the homeless people all over the island with nowhere to go,” he told Honolulu’s Star-Advertiser in 2019.

No one answered the door Sunday at his blue stucco house near the beach that is colorfully painted with wooden cutouts of fish. A white pickup truck with a Biden-Harris bumper sticker and a flat tire was in the driveway.

Neighbor Christopher Tam said Routh kept to himself and was respectful, cordial and kind.

“It’s just been very surprising,” Tam said. “If he did have anything to do with it, it’s very shocking to us.”

Sources within the FBI said the mystery had thus far proved to be too complex to unravel, as agents scoured the shooter's extensive social media post history condemning Trump and his long track record of giving money to Democratic political causes in search of any sign of what may have motivated his attack.

"We're just as puzzled as everyone else," said Special Agent Dirk Burbon at a press briefing on the investigation. "Though there has been widespread speculation that this attempted assassination was politically motivated, the suspect and his well-documented history of hating Mr. Trump and supporting Democrat causes have thus far given no indication of that being the case."

Investigators urged caution, telling the American people not to rush to judgment. "Let us do our work here," Special Agent Burbon continued. "This is not the time for rash action or jumping to conclusions. Sometimes a suspect's motive to commit a crime is obvious. Other times, despite an abundance of clues that give a clear-cut explanation for their actions, you're left never knowing the truth. Some cases just aren't ever meant to be solved, ya know?"

At publishing time, FBI insiders revealed agents were hard at work trying to determine if the large neon sign flashing "I'M GOING TO KILL DONALD TRUMP" the shooter installed outside his home had any meaning.

It’s definitely an X-File.
So much for:

President Biden condemned political violence in remarks from the Oval Office on Sunday, and said the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump necessitates a cooling down of heated political rhetoric in the country.

“I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics,” Biden said. “We're neighbors or friends, coworkers, citizens. Most importantly, we are fellow Americans, we must stand together,” Biden said.
That lasted a week or so then right back to Hitler is a threat to democracy when the US isn't a democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic.

Suspect in apparent Trump assassination attempt camped outside golf course for 12 hours, records show

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The man suspected in an apparent assassination attempt targeting Donald Trump camped outside a golf course with food and a rifle for nearly 12 hours, lying in wait for the former president before a Secret Service agent thwarted the potential attack and opened fire, according to court documents filed Monday.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, faces charges of possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He did not fire any shots and never had Trump in his line of sight, the Secret Service’s acting chief said.

Routh appeared briefly in federal court in West Palm Beach, kickstarting a criminal case in the final weeks of a presidential race already touched by violence and upheaval. Though no one was injured, the episode marked the second attempt on Trump’s life in as many months, raising fresh questions about the security afforded to him during a time of amped-up political rhetoric. It prompted Republican allies and even some Democrats to demand to know how a would-be shooter could get so close.

Routh was arrested Sunday afternoon after authorities spotted a firearm poking out of shrubbery on the West Palm Beach golf course where Trump was playing. He was spotted by a Secret Service agent assigned to Trump’s security detail who opened fire. Routh sped away before being captured by law enforcement in a neighboring county, the authorities said.

Body camera footage posted Monday on Facebook by the Martin County sheriff’s office showed Routh’s arrest. The video shows him walking backward with his hands over his head on the side of a road before being handcuffed and led away by law enforcement.

Underscoring the level of planning involved, Routh is believed to have been positioned at the tree line of the golf course from about 1:59 a.m. to 1:31 p.m. Sunday, according to an FBI affidavit that cites cellphone data. A digital camera, a loaded SKS-style rifle with a scope and a plastic bag containing food were recovered from the area where Routh had been standing, according to the affidavit.

Coming just weeks after a July shooting at a Pennsylvania campaign rally in which Trump was wounded by a gunman’s bullet, the latest assassination attempt accelerated concerns that violence continues to infect American presidential politics. Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s challenger in the November election, denounced the thwarted attack, with Harris saying in a post on X: “I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”

“We will work tirelessly to ensure accountability, and we will bring every available resource to bear in this investigation,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.

Authorities did not immediately reveal any new details about Routh’s background or allege a particular motive in charging documents. But his large online footprint suggests a man of evolving political viewpoints, culminating in an apparent disdain for Trump and intense outrage at global events concerning China and especially Ukraine.

“You are free to assassinate Trump,” Routh wrote of Iran in an apparently self-published 2023 book titled “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War,” which described the former president as a “fool” and “buffoon” for both the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots and the “tremendous blunder” of leaving the Iran nuclear deal.

Routh wrote that he once voted for Trump and must take part of the blame for the “child that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless.”

He also tried to recruit fighters for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia, and he had a website seeking to raise money and recruit volunteers to fight for Kyiv.

Routh also made 19 small donations totaling $140 since 2019 to ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates, according to federal campaign finance records.

One of the two counts he faces alleges that he illegally possessed his gun in spite of multiple felony convictions, including two charges of possessing stolen goods in 2002 in North Carolina. The other charge alleges that the serial number was obliterated and unreadable to the naked eye, in violation of federal law.

Routh was the subject of a previously closed 2019 tip to the FBI that alleged that he was a felon in possession of a firearm, said Jeffrey Veltri, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Miami’s field office. The FBI interviewed the tipster, who did not verify the initial information, Veltri said. The FBI passed that information to local law enforcement in Honolulu on behalf of the FBI.

Authorities are pursing search warrants for the suspect’s cellphones, electronics and a vehicle, Veltri said. They are also interviewing witnesses on the scene, as well as family members and former colleagues.

Routh was ordered held after prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk, with additional hearings set for later this month.

He spoke in a soft voice as he answered perfunctory questions from a federal magistrate, saying that he was working and making around $3,000 a month, but has zero savings. Routh said that he has no real estate or assets, aside from two trucks worth about $1,000, both located in Hawaii. He also said that he has a 25-year-old son, whom he sometimes supports.

The arrest focused fresh attention on the challenges of protecting Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, not only during campaign events but also when he is off the trail, often at his own clubs and properties.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one of Trump’s rivals in the GOP primary, said his state will conduct its own investigation into how Routh was able to get so close.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw noted at a briefing that because Trump is no longer in office, security protocols around the course had loosened.

“He’s not the sitting president. If he was, we would have had this entire golf course surrounded. But because he’s not, his security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible,” he told reporters.

On July 13, a bullet grazed Trump’s ear after a 20-year-old gunman was able to gain access to an unsecured roof during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump blames Biden, Harris ‘rhetoric’ for assassination attempt while internet blames Swifties
Author of the article:Denette Wilford
Published Sep 16, 2024 • Last updated 1 day ago • 3 minute read

Donald Trump accused President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris of being at the root of the recent violence against him.

Ryan Wesley Routh is accused of trying to kill Trump after authorities say he camped outside a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, for hours with a AK-47-style rifle before the Secret Service discovered the suspect in the bushes.

Authorities are treating the incident as an apparent assassination attempt against Trump, who was safe in the second attempt on his life since July.

“He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it,” Trump told Fox News of Routh.

“Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out,” he told the outlet, and posted similar accusations on X on Monday.

Trump noted that past comments from Biden and Harris are meant to paint him as a “threat to democracy,” while trying to convince Americans they are about “unity.”

But Trump insisted, “They are the opposite, these are people that want to destroy our country.”

He added: “It is called the enemy from within. They are the real threat.”

Routh, 58, portrayed himself online as a man who built housing for homeless people in Hawaii, but also tried to recruit fighters for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia, and described his support, and then disdain, for Donald Trump — even urging Iran to kill him.

The accused had previously echoed anti-Trump comments made by Biden and Harris who have declared that they “cannot lose” because “democracy is on the ballot.”

Trump said of his attempted killers: “These are the things that dangerous fools, like the shooter, listen to — that is the rhetoric they listen to, and the same with the first one.”

Trump’s lies about voter fraud in the last election incited the violent riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, where five people died and more than 140 police officers were injured while defending the building.

However, he said it is the Biden administration’s policies that are “destroying” America “by allowing millions of very dangerous migrants to pour into it and destroying our country and cities.”

The internet, meanwhile, noted that the timing of the assassination attempt was awfully coincidental given how close it was to Trump declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social over the weekend, which was screenshot and widely shared on X and other platforms.

The former president made his anti-Swift post at 10.44 a.m., and Routh was arrested by 2 p.m.

“Trump saying he hated Taylor was the last straw for Swifties,” one person joked.

Another user wrote: “Biggest mistake anyone can ever make is p***ing off Swifties.”

Swift endorsed Harris and her running mate Tim Walz following the debate.

The pop star wrote in an Instagram post: “I think she (Harris) is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.” Swift then went on to applaud Walz’s fight for LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.

Musk deletes post about Harris, Biden assassination after sparking criticism

Elon Musk has deleted a post on his social media platform X in which he said “no one is even trying to assassinate” President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris in the wake of an apparent assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump while he was playing golf.

Musk, who has nearly 200 million followers on the social media site he bought for $44 billion in 2022, has increasingly embraced conservative ideologies in recent years and endorsed Trump for president.

While he has removed posts in the past, Musk has also kept up and even doubled down on other such inflammatory comments. Last week, he made a joke about impregnating Taylor Swift after the singer posted an endorsement for Harris.

Early Monday, after taking down the post about the apparent Trump assassination, the 53-year-old billionaire wrote on the platform: “Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X.”

The original post was in response to DogeDesigner, one of the 700 accounts that Musk follows, who asked: “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?”

Musk’s reply was quickly condemned by many X users, and “DeportElonMusk” began trending on X on Monday morning.

“Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about,” said White House spokesperson Andrew Bates in response to Musk’s post. “This rhetoric is irresponsible.”

The Tesla CEO has previously posted conspiracy theories and feuded with world leaders and politicians. X is currently banned in Brazil amid a dustup between Musk and a Brazilian Supreme Court judge over free speech, far-right accounts and misinformation.

He’s also received criticism in the past for what critics said were posts encouraging violence.

Last month, for instance, the British government called on Musk to act responsibly after he used X to unleash a barrage of posts that officials said risked inflaming violent unrest gripping the country.

Musk said when he bought the platform then known as Twitter that protecting free speech — not money — was his motivation because, as he put it, “having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization.”

Sarah Kreps, director of Cornell University’s Tech Policy Institute, noted that Musk has long been trying to “push the boundaries of free speech, in part by engaging in impulsive, unfiltered comments on a range of political topics.”

Interesting isn't it? I truly believe that Trump is at risk. There is absolutely no way that the Progressives will "allow" Trump to be in the WH. If cheating doesn't work, assassination will even if it takes multiple tries. The Democrats are so corrupt, they'll do anything to make sure they come out on top & the rest of America loses whatever Rights they have. Harris/Walz will continue with the B.S. they're currently spewing & will ensure, if elected, the rest of Americans are enslaved. Marxism (aka power) is all it's about. Remember, Trump has said it's not about him but about him stopping what will happen to the rest. Unfortunately, if they can't jail him, they'll kill him. Once that happens, I doubt if the election will go forward because the Dems will take over complete contol which is what this is all about. Conspiracy? We'll see....

Florida will launch criminal probe into apparent assassination attempt of Trump, governor says

WEST PALM BEACH, Fl. (AP) — Florida law enforcement will launch a state-level criminal probe of the apparent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday.

DeSantis told reporters that the “suspect is believed to have committed state law violations.” DeSantis’ announcement comes a day after Ryan Routh was charged with federal firearms crimes.

Routh did not fire any shots, never had Trump in his line of sight and sped away after an agent who spotted him shot in his direction, officials said. He was arrested in a neighbouring county.

The latest series of deadly traps matched what has become a disturbing pattern along Trump's pathway to election day, with experts speculating that the former president may find himself dodging multiple assassination attempts per day over the next several weeks.

"It's almost as if there's some unseen force out to get him," said one campaign insider. "Some members of the media have started accusing us of being paranoid, but after that huge wrecking ball swung just barely in front of Trump's vehicle yesterday followed by him narrowly avoiding stepping into that moat filled with hungry crocodiles outside Mar-a-Lago the day before, we're all starting to think something fishy is going on."

Trump's critics were quick to suggest the events weren't as dangerous as reported. "Oh, come on, like that's anything worse than what we all deal with every day," said one anti-Trump protester. "So he's having to dodge numerous deadly attacks each day, big whoop! He obviously brought this on himself with all his divisive rhetoric and attempts to overthrow democracy. Maybe he should do himself a favor and just drop out of the race."

At publishing time, Trump had reportedly safely reached the location of today's rally, despite being narrowly missed by a poison blow dart, having a knife thrown into the wall just beside his head, and rolling out of the way of a runaway cement truck.
