How much to Ukraine ? Spending priorities. Still would you want to piss off a carrier group ?
Nobody is. Those who have the weaponry and manpower don't have the cash and those that have the cash don't have the weaponry and in many of those cases, they don't really have the manpower either.
Mind you, the US is still in a much better position than Russia or China. Bedpan's excursion into Ukraine has fucked the Russian economy so badly it'll take at least 10 years and more likely closer to 20 years for them just to get back to where they were pre-2022. Even their trade with China has been reduced to basic bartering for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile Xi has been busy chasing Western investment out of China with his stupid policies. China may have the manpower and the military hardware of questionable capability and quality, but the money is drying up really fucking fast.
Fortunately, the US also has competent, reliable allies to help in case of a major war.
Oh for sure it is. But the US is still in a better position than most countries in that regard.Overall I'd agree with you but then when you hear/read what this paper suggested as to the bigger issues it is still concerning enough.
We're not. Most of China's military hardware are second-rate knock-offs of Russian junk. The stuff that isn't are 4th-rate knock-offs of US equipment. In fact most Chinese (and Russian) equipment is a solid 1-2 generations behind Western tech. There are some exceptions, but fortunately mass corruption has made those weapon systems relatively ineffective. It also to me is a little cringe when it was previously believed Russia had a better military but now we know that's false... yet there is also this idea China has only a meh military... and I wonder if we're not wrong about that, too.
Well we are getting 12 subs added to the fleet so...there is that. Seriously though, Canada's arctic is firmly in Russia's sights. In fact in 2021 they submitted a document to the UN basically claiming the entire arctic as Russian territory. It didn't fly at the UN but it points to the fact that Canada's arctic is already under Russian threat. You'd think Captain Climate Change would be acutely aware of that fact considering if we do reach a point where the North-West Passage becomes ice-free year round, Russia will become a real problem for Canada.Myself I still think Canada needs to do more military wise but with the current fuckers in control that's not going to happen. Even if they change who's PM now, I seriously doubt anything will change.
The 12 Frigates that keep sinking.Well we are getting 12 subs added to the fleet so...there is that
Uh, what war has Canada ever won? I mean besides being part of a larger contingent that won.The real problem is the military is controlled by bureaucraps. At least in Canada, and what I have been told, probably everywhere. It is about 15 years since I worked for the Canadian military, but I doubt the conditions have improved. At the time, I asked the sergeant that was nominally my boss how we ever won a war with the general incompetence in our military. He said all armies are run by the same incompetents, so it is a wash. While the boots on the ground types worry about siphoning fuel out of a broke down truck to put in one that still runs, because they used up their fuel budget for the month, the bureaucraps worry about feminine hygiene products in mens toilets.
Well, you kicked our asses a couple of times, when we launched lame-ass stabs across the border.Uh, what war has Canada ever won? I mean besides being part of a larger contingent that won.
We can only hope that the North remains relatively full of ice & that the projections of the NW Passage becoming "ice free" is only that - a possibility that may or may not happen. Climate is cynical so who knows what will happen.Oh for sure it is. But the US is still in a better position than most countries in that regard.

The NWP is ice free almost every summer. Some years are better than others, but marine traffic goes through. We can only hope that the North remains relatively full of ice & that the projections of the NW Passage becoming "ice free" is only that - a possibility that may or may not happen. Yeah, I guess unofficially they were Canadians I guess.Well, you kicked our asses a couple of times, when we launched lame-ass stabs across the border.
Well they did defeat Japan pretty much by themselves. Yeah, Britain and Canada were there but they were too few in number to be effective and were "neutralized". There were the ANZACS but it was primarily an American war. There's also the Spanish-American War, their own Revolutionary War,Could ask the US the same thing - though they'd claim "All wars" or some shit.
No doubt about that. In fact after WW1 when the Geneva Convention drafted up their rules of shit you're not allowed to do in war, some of Canada's actions were noted and 'inspired" some of the laws. And by actions I mean highly questionable actions. lolBut Canada does have a reputation, regardless, and I think that's what more people focus on. We may not "win" wars personally, but we sure as shit make people know when we're in them.
Pretty much every country that shares a border or even close proximity to Russia has drastically increased their defense spending. Except Canada. And some countries that are sympathetic to Russia.Ah, funny you should mention that.
(can't remember if I posted this also elsewhere, sorry if it's a repeat)
Back on point, this is why I'm all for expanding Canada's military, and we should, and that we're not and haven't been (besides being like other countries in the world not to) is a VERY bad idea.
I dunno, by 1939 I'd say that tactically and in warfighting Germany had very much prepared to fight their next war. Their major weak point was Hitler. Man, you could write a book called "All The Stupid Shit You Shouldn't Do When You Go to War" using him as a sole source of examples. Putin could write Book 2 in the series although some of his major fuck ups would be repeats of Hitler's dumb-assery.In terms of cash, gear, people, strategy, tactics. . . generals are always preparing to fight the previous war. Nobody is ever ready for a war, not even the party that launches it.
Yeah, how'd that work out for them?I dunno, by 1939 I'd say that tactically and in warfighting Germany had very much prepared to fight their next war.
Jesus Christ dude, try reading more than one sentence in a post.Yeah, how'd that work out for them?
