Interesting; the idea of Cleo being "Black" goes back to the 19th century, so none of this is actually "new".

I wonder if people shouldn't be also freaking out over the fact that not only was Cleo not "Black", but she also wasn't Egyptian either. But skin color matters more I guess than the full authenticity.

The problem with the USA, and maybe Canada, is that it thinks the whole of Africa is black and has one culture, as though Africa is a country. You see so-called "African Americans" and think all Africans are like that. The rest of the world doesn't view it that way. We see Africa as a diverse continent with many cultures and skin colours: Africans are black, Arabic and white.

If diverse storytelling is crucial then tell diverse stories. Don't just artificially race/gender swap characters in an already existing universe for the sake of "diversity". Especially if you're going to claim to be a docuseries. What's even worse in this case is they literally committed cultural and historic appropriation by outright stating that "Cleopatra was Black and don't let anyone tell you otherwise".

Same with a recent Doctor Who episode where Isaac Newton was Black. The producers acknowledged that it was historically inaccurate then defended their odd choice by stating it's how THEY wished history had happened. And to that I say, "fuuuuck offfff". At no point in the entire history of the show did it suggest there was a multiverse.
It's one thing to want me to suspend my belief when I'm watching a show like Doctor Who, it's quite another to expect me to swallow absolute bullshit that is empirically false.
