My meat is local but my fruit and veggies are tagged Mexico US and Guatemala.
Your province may be the exception. Plenty of hothouse veggies here in bc. I'm pretty sure there are in ontario and quebec as well. Not sure about alberta. Not all veggies are grown in the winter of course but lots are. I'm surprised there's no winter farming out your way.

The excuse they gave us about the high cost of lettuce right now is that there was a drought and bad crop in California. Supposedly, a better crop is due any time now......Yeah right, prices will drop.....lol

Guess they don't grow any in the summer out your way either? Weird. Still - to each their own.

Good times. Sunny Ways Peoplekind.
LOL right? I mean, how do you manage to convince people the rise in price for milk and eggs is due to global supply chain issues? But people are buying it and he's getting a free pass on it.

Lots in summer. Its called winter. Its cold and hot houses arent cheap to run ever if using byproduct heat from industry. Its been tried repeatedly.

We grow food out here in the summer. In the winter, it’s just not really feasible. We get colder than southern BC or Toronto as a rule of thumb. Have you ever lived out here and spend a winter here or Edmonton or Winnipeg? Not belittling anything and just curious is all.

We grow a lot out here, climate specific in the summer, but not fruit orchards. Believe it or not Saskatchewan is kind of famous for growing stuff, but not hot house vegetables. We can get small apples and I’ve seen a few pear trees, and there’s lots of wild or semi-domesticated (Native) Berry growth, but cereal (& pulse) crops are the big game out here.

And for some reason it's going to increase in price this year.

All of which will be going up. BC is famous for it's fruits which will also be going up. Both places produce a reasonable amount of eggs and milk and beef and pork and chicken - all of which will be going up. And breads and things made with grain are scheduled to go up as well. Anyone out that way grow grains? :) But despite the fact you're literally surrounded by it - costs of bread will go up.

And not just a little - all of that stuff is expected to go up at a rate far exceeding the average inflation.

Which raises the question i mentioned - how is food grown and processed in Canada increasing faster than overall inflation for other canadians? It's not an 'international supply chain' issue, not really because of the war so much (maybe grain prices a little but not THAT much). It's not covid. It's not any of the excuses that have been put forward by the liberals or their supporters.

It mostly has to do with Justin's policies. Carbon taxes, high gov't spending, the inflation caused by his excessive covid payments and policy (as noted by the BOC and auditor general). Weak productivity, lack of business investment in modern tech, etc.

Article says prices will be going up over summer as well. You may not have realized it but that's what comes after winter and spring.
I have an indoor winter garden and eat out of my own garden. If I want meat I buy from Hutties or eat bush meat.

I did however buy a pork belly this AM that I'll cure and smoke. Im not a moron and will eat it as salo rather than lose 85% of its life giving fat by cooking it.

What therapy might this be? Would you like to buy some meat? Ever tried bison? Want beef? $4.00 an lb for a side cut and wrapped. Chickens? 7-8lb hens $15 a pop.

Charging what? I get food and heat from a source that would otherwise be used as heat. Its free food for the price of a baseboard heater.
I'm sure if you looked up, you'd have seen that one passing over your head.
