Ugh…wet heavy shit.

Just shovelled our end of the block. Like trying to throw 5 gallon pails of water on the end of a stick....feeling guilty I didn’t hit the other side of the street (selectively) but enough for one round.

Finally getting some rain on the wet coast. Not hard, just a nice soaker.
Which is just what was needed, the ground's nice and wet now so when the heavy stuff comes it'll soak in more and won't just run off the surface. Hopefully this next week will see enough to put an end to the forest fire season.

Well, we’re coming up on COP27. Sounds like Trudeau will sit this one out & send in the underlings.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (Reuters) -Delegates from nearly 200 countries kicked off the U.N. climate summit in Egypt on Sunday with an agreement to discuss compensating poor nations for mounting damage linked to global warming, placing the controversial topic on the agenda for the first time since climate talks began decades ago.

The agreement set a constructive tone for the COP27 summit in the seaside resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, where governments hope to keep alive a goal to avert the worst impacts of planetary warming even as a slew of crises - from a land war in Europe to rampant inflation -DISTRACT the international focus

Climate guru Greta Thunberg isn’t going. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau isn’t either.

“The COPs are mainly used as an opportunity for leaders and people in power to get attention, using many different kinds of greenwashing,” said Thunberg. “(They) are not really meant to change the whole system.”

Yet an estimated 35,000 people from government, Indigenous nations, climate groups and fossil-fuel multinationals will be getting on planes to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in the hopes of hastening (or hindering) the global movement to net zero.

The Star reached out to activists and academics, green capitalists and researchers and found that while many were opting out this year, few were willing to go on the record to explain why, not wanting to be seen as impeding the global talks.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH — Delegates from nearly 200 countries kicked off the U.N. climate summit in Egypt on Sunday with an agreement to discuss compensating poor nations for mounting damage linked to global warming, placing the controversial topic on the agenda for the first time since climate talks began decades ago.

Despite increased momentum to address loss and damage due to a rise in climate change-fueled disasters, COP27 faces headwinds to raising cash – with western governments’ budgets depleted from huge spending to shield their citizens from the economic fallout of the war in Ukraine.

As world leaders prepare to descend on the resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for this year’s United Nations climate conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has decided to sit this one out.

Instead, leading Canada’s delegation will be Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault, flanked by Canada’s top two ranking climate diplomats (?) Catherine Stewart and Steven Kuhn, the climate change ambassador (?) and chief negotiator for climate change (?), respectively.

Egyptian authorities have arrested at least 118 people in the past two weeks for calling for protests during the Cop27 UN climate conference against the spiralling cost of living.

Since 25 October, at least 118 Egyptians have been charged by Egypt's public prosecution after being arrested at make-shift checkpoints or taken from their homes, Amnesty International's Egypt researcher Hussein Bayoumi told Middle East Eye.

Bayoumi told MEE that the real number of detainees might be higher and that several people were arrested based solely on a photo or a post they shared on social media.

He said that the authorities had referred the detainees to the State Security Prosecution, which is responsible for grave offences such as terrorism.

Civilians have been harassed, shops asked to close, and residents without proper IDs told to return after next month's conference.

Even before delegates arrive for this latest COP (number 27), a spat has kicked off around Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of the event. Canadian writer and activist Naomi Klein tweeted sarcastically that it was “Super fun to have a climate summit in a police state sponsored by Coca-Cola”, while the environmental campaign group Greenpeace said it was baffling for COP27 to choose the “world’s biggest plastic polluter” as a sponsor, given that “99% of plastics are made from fossil fuels”.

WTF is this "Climate guru Greta Thunberg"? guru? Seriously?
Well, in an odd (and unintended, I'm sure) way, exactly that.

A guru is a spiritual or religious teacher/advisor. Given that for all the hardcores, their version of environmentalism shows all the characteristics of a religion, I'm willing to call it a religion. So that'd make Thunberg a religious teacher/advisor.

Ergo, guru.

Or maybe gurette.

Or guretita.

Annnd THERE'S his problem :) He doesn't want to be seen explaining how he's messed up the economy to the point where he can't afford to pay to address climate change at this point.

Now - if you want a pipeline shut down or something free, he can help you there :)

She can see CO2. She can't tie her penis in a knot or pile thorny roses up her ass like the gurus I saw on YouTube but seeing CO2 is still pretty special.

While we seldom agree with 19-year-old global climate change activist Greta Thunberg, we’re hard-pressed to fault her condemnation of the United Nations’ latest global gabfest on climate change as “people in power … greenwashing, lying and cheating.”

Thunberg also said she’s boycotting the UN’s 27th annual Conference of the Parties on climate change from Nov. 6 to 18 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt because it’s being “held in a tourist paradise in a country that violates many basic human rights.”

Canada, on the other hand, will send a delegation headed by Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault to this annual, massive UN conference, colloquially known as COP 27.

COP 1 was held in Berlin, Germany in 1995 and since then everywhere from Paris to Bali, Copenhagen to Cancun, Doha to Marrakech and Buenos Aires to Madrid.

Never has it convened in a place where the energy that powers modern civilization is actually produced — for example Fort McMurray in Alberta’s Athabasca oil sands.

These massive UN meetings, attended by tens of thousands of politicians, protesters, special interest groups and UN and government bureaucrats descending on the world’s vacation hotspots, was appropriately mocked by British musician Matt Bellamy in 2007 as “Private Jets for Climate Change”.

That’s because of the annual fly-ins by attention seeking celebrities these outdated events attract, who are oblivious to the massive carbon footprints they leave in their wake.

Nothing meaningful will be achieved as long as the UN continues its blatant hypocrisy of demanding everyone drastically reduce their carbon footprint, except the UN.

Its approach to addressing climate change has failed. It should be scrapped.

The UN can start by cancelling these ridiculous meetings and using video conferencing.
