THE NORWEGIAN ARMY WANTS ITS USED UNDIES BACK
The Norwegian army wants its underwear back. Even soiled.
According to Euronews , supply shortages have become so bad that anyone enlisting in the Norwegian army will have to return used underwear, socks and bras once their services ends. The decision was made because shortages, supply chain issues, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic made it harder for the army to purchase an adequate supply of undergarments.
Public broadcaster NRK reported many conscripts would voluntarily return intimate apparel in years past, but now that’s been made mandatory. The unmentionables must be washed, cleaned and returned in good condition.

The Guardian reported that underwear shortages could impact the operation of those currently enlisted, and in some cases, “the safety of the soldier.”
In Norway, army conscription is compulsory. However, not everyone is taken into the military, the Guardian reported. Candidates are questioned about their mental and physical health, criminal records, and if they’re motivated to be a soldier.
Those who meet specified criteria — only about one in six — are selected to serve in the army.
