I don't know about up there either. Down hereabouts, involuntary servitude violates the Thirteenth Amendment. If you've signed a contract and you violate it, the other party (the employer) can sue you for damages, and can generally get an injuction forbidding you to work in the field for pay for the duration of the original contract. But aside from the military, you can't be forced to work.
