Yes.......it has. I can only presume on the reasons. Some new ones don't stay. Some seem to be members on several forums. (taxme) ......etc. Perhaps some lose interest. . One can only guess. We have lost some really good ones. I do know that some visit and read the content. Maybe it is the natural ebb and flow of a forum dynamic.
I think some new are reluctant to post because the mood is pretty hostile from some. When I joined there was more discussion and less posturing, which has shifted and that's too bad. It's typical of any forum and yes the ebbs and flows play a part. I think too that the closer we get to the US election the more amped up people are and those that support Trump seem to have a lot of anger, and it's materializing in an "us against them" dynamic. It's great to have opposing views and the conversations can be interesting but when you're trying to angrily ram your opinions down someone's throat it's no longer a discussion. And that's disappointing coming from who I assumed were adults. There are very few here, like you, who are willing to have conversations, not shouting matches.
And I ask about moderation because it is lacking and appears to be biased.
very good/valid observations. The mod 'attitude" seems to have changed.A mod should deal with poster issues directly & privately with the poster involved. Not on the public forum. Shaming anyone is counterproductive. IMHO
I think I can provide a fairly accurate guess on one of the main causes. Too much Trump, Trump, Trump. How much new information have we gleaned in the past couple of months on Covid 19? And then you get the 'ad infinitim' natterings on how harmless it is, while it's already killed over a million.
You're probably right, too much Trump Trump Trump, but considering the world stage upon which the clown dances I can understand him being the focus of so much attention, on a forum and off. Everywhere I go in getting my days done as needed, it is rare that he does not come up in conversation, often with an eyeroll or an "ugh."
And there's always going to be push back by groups of people who think themselves rebels, quite often it is born of fear of losing control of the world around them and so they know no other way other way to cope.
I don't believe this virus to be harmless, and I will do what I can to avoid coming into contact with it.
You remember how Ron in Regina was as a mod? He had a way of coming down hard on the infraction while being easy on the culprit. Locutus was the exact opposite.
I think , if Donald was "normal" he would not be the subject of so much conversation. His irresponsible behavior is notable..and careless. He is a conversation topic because he is abnormal. does abnormal thins and creates abnormal results.
He has the virus. It is not over yet. He is still coughing. and yet he has invited 2000 people to the whit house lawn tomorrow for a speach from the balcony. This sounds like a jonestown moment. Not rational. He is risking another outbreak. at the WH. One was not enough.

I recognize the name Ron in Regina but to be honest was unaware that he was a mod. I guess depending on the person and infraction both of their approaches could be effective? I just think there has to be a balance across the board that applies to all. I was a mod on a forum many many years ago, and it's a tough line to walk, but if you crossed that line either way, your credibility as being impartial was shot.

I think Pete is IT! There was three or four at one time. One thing in Pete's defense, he has got rid off a couple of the worst offenders. One is back and a bigger nuisance than ever. But he's too stupid to really be a problem, so best to just ignore him.
Didnt see any weirdness at either end today when we flew west. I bought a big bag of jelly beans so I could take my mask off to snack during the flight. No beer or scotch makes flights too long.
What is the procedure like now for flying?? How is the seating arranged?? Are hand sanitizes available??

Masks all flight, temp taken at security, no staggering of seating, no hand goo beyond the typical and no drink and snack carts but they are allowing/suggesting people to bring a snack and refreshments.
