Most B.C. students to return to class for full-time in-class learning in September

https://bc.ctvnews.ca/most-b-c-stud...time-in-class-learning-in-september-1.5043581
it's an optimistic suggestion, and the truth is that there will be many students in BC held out by their parents.

When the minister remarks that

"We were the only jurisdiction in Canada that brought students back into the classroom province-wide before the end of the school year and this has given us valuable information that we are using to develop our plans, ensuring health and safety at schools remain paramount."

one should keep in mind that classes were not even half full.

I would also like to hear the plans for the gm and even more so for the library. They seem to me to be two places that need to be avoided.

True, but the planning does have to happen well ahead. We certainly don't want to be paying for teachers to sit in empty classrooms. At the same time there has to be a plan for grading and providing learning material for homeschoolers as well as online courses. I fully expect the bricks and mortar public school system is in for a permanent change. I don't know what it will look like yet but it will be very different than the current model and you can be sure the teachers union is not going to like it.

Teachers should be an essential service. Teacher's unions should concern themselves with safety issues.

Fed holds U.S. interest rate steady, citing ongoing COVID-19 drag on economy

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/fed-rate-decision-1.5667665

US central bank holds short term rates near zero as the US economy continues to struggle.

The Fed - already 2 trillion dollars into the de facto quantitative easing - will continue buying US debt at the rate of about $120 billion a month.

They are the only thing that is keeping the US from outright collapse.

One of the worst things about keeping kids out of school is years down the road there are going to be gaps in the workforce as far as professional positions go.

I've been watching baseball. Seems wrong to play hockey in August. I won't watch basketball unless the Raptors are about to win it all.

Marlins outbreak from what I hear was because they went out partying in Atlanta. Against protocols.

But I suspect a lot of people will watch sports. Probably the same ones who watched it before. Not sure why you would assume a change.
I guess people want to see it but it really isn't the same without the crowd.

Especially golf.

The Masters is not the Masters if you can't hear the crowd roaring for Tiger Woods on Sunday. That is a big part of the test.

If there was no crowd Greg Norman might have won 10 of them.

With golf and all the whispering, I would have thought that one would not be affected by lack of crowds.

Some benefits are you can hear the pitcher express his feelings better when me makes a bad pitch. His words come through crystal clear on some broadcasts. Unfortunately Rogers has decided to add a 'cheering' track. An electronic crowd to the broadcast. I find it mainly annoying. But I still like being able to watch.

I think hockey and basketball will be able to finish their seasons. They have taken the hub city approach and isolated their teams in those cities. Baseball has teams moving around more. More chance of what happened with the Marlins. I put the odds at 50/50 they will be able to finish.

Meet Dr. Stella Immanuel who Trump referred to as, spectacular. You have to see this to believe it.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/coro...0200728-lmhsggqh3jcjppd5ej5f2tnpvy-story.html

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump issued a stout defense Tuesday of a disproved use of a malaria drug as a treatment for the coronavirus, hours after social media companies moved to take down videos promoting its use as potentially harmful misinformation.

The president, in a marked shift from the more measured approach he’s taken toward the virus in recent days, took to Twitter to promote hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, and to amplify criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert. In a White House briefing, Trump defended his decision to promote a viral video of a group of doctors promoting the use of the drug Monday, even though his own administration withdrew emergency authorization for its use against the coronavirus.

“I think they’re very respected doctors,” Trump said, adding they believed in the drug. “There was a woman who was spectacular in her statements about it.” The doctors, members of a group called America’s Frontline Doctors, took part in an event organized by Tea Party Patriots Action, a dark money group that has helped fund a pro-Trump political action committee.

Trump disappointed that the video featuring "Dr. Demon Sperm" was removed by social media for spreading misinformation. Man this guy just can't get a break can he? I mean, the good Dr. who is "very respected" according to Trump is doing good work right? On top of curing Covid-19 she's warning the world that sex with demons can make people sick, I mean I thought that was a given but still, it's nice to see the message getting out there. I wonder if she'll be present at Trump's next Coronavirus presser?

“I think they’re very respected doctors,” Trump said of the group in the video, before appearing to applaud Immanuel in particular.

“There was a woman who was spectacular in her statements about (hydroxychloroquine), and that she’s had tremendous success with it,” Trump said at a briefing on Tuesday. “And they took her — they took her voice — I don’t know why they took her off but they took her off.”

All joking aside, Trump has gone completely off the rails. The President of the United States of America is giving credibility to a woman who claims among other things that alien DNA is being used medicinally to treat humans, that high positions within the government are held by reptilians and that health problems specific to women are caused by dream sex with demons. And people call Joe Biden mentally unstable? Really? I truly can't believe that Trump would think for one second that this individual has an ounce of credibility whatsoever. Surely he or his administration could have found someone other than this woman for Trump to endorse as very respected and spectacular.

Well considering the fact that I'm Canadian, that's not an option for me. On that note though, too bad that you can't vote for him, am I right? No seriously, if you were an American would you vote for Donald Trump for a second term? I'm curious.
