Whatever it was a political hit job like the whole Russian collusion fiasco .Thank you for validating my point... Damned if he did because of the optics, damned if he didn't under what could be construed as a veiled threat by Stone.
No doubt . She still can’t answer why he doesn’t have the Supreme Court and Congress eating out of his hands , yet is running a dictatorship. The epitome of T D S
Trump commuting Roger Stone's sentence should not come as a surprise, it doesn't to me, in fact I expected it. Trump could have waited until after the election where it would not have mattered either way had he pardoned Stone but Stone would have none of that, not wanting to spend one day in prison. If you listen to the comments Stone made to a journalist (below with linked article) I wonder if Trump was afraid of what Stone may have disclosed had his sentence not been commuted.
“[Trump] knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him. It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn’t,” Stone told Howard Fineman on Friday.
It was but the latest statement from Stone which seemed to openly acknowledge that he was aware of crimes or misconduct involving Trump, but that he had remained silent — likely knowing that the president would reward his loyalty and protect him in the end.

So Trump "rewards" him and silences him a the same time. Those are the rules of the Trump regime. ( very similar to the rules of the Mafia ) Trump is not governing a nation.........he is running his version of the Mob.
Roger Stone says Donald Trump saved his life by commuting his prison sentence Friday night.
"The president has saved my life," Stone said, "And he's given me the opportunity to fight for vindication."
He previously had said that any period in a federal prison would amount to a death sentence, given the coronavirus pandemic and his health problems: "I'm 67 years old. I had very, very severe asthma as a child. If you look at the profile of those who are most at risk, I think I fit that," he said.
While he expressed his gratitude for Trump's decision, Stone says it didn't come as a shock.
"Well I was, I was elated," he said Friday night outside his Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home surrounded by onlookers. "Obviously I was somewhat relieved, but I was not surprised."
Stone described his legal ordeal as a "nightmare" and a "witch hunt.".....More

Well Trump doesn't get paid by the taxpayer at all. I bet you can't find a Democrat President that can say the same.
There is nothing in this article that is a surprise, and not sure what you meant by "should be safe" as there was no risk of danger in opening and reading it. To form an opinion one has to consider hearing from all parties, would you agree? I saw no harm in reading the article and in fact have read numerous since this story broke. Even saw the video on Twitter of Stone doing a celebratory dance, he has some pretty good moves.
