And no one is stupider than all those who ignore the covid-19 regulations and protestors are the stupidest of them all. Without a doubt there will be some brain-dead dolt bitching on social media that they caught the virus while out screaming at buildings, blocking roads, wandering around freeways etc etc etc.

It amazes me that there are folks that believe that it's a good idea to be out on a highway at night... I can only imagine that these Mensa candidates also wore dark colors not thinking that they were blending in, camouflage style.

Many in this Southern city are living like there's no pandemic. That's made it a hot spot.

The important metric at hand right now is not the number of new infections, but the number of hospitalizations and fatalities that result.

What with the US having a very aggressive testing program in place, expect the # of new cases to increase simply via testing larger populations, however, the fatality rate of covid will also drop accordingly.

Not the result that you (and others) want but it will be effective in offering some much needed perspective on this issue

It should be noted that the United States has 3.3 times (per-capita) the amount of cases as Canada, and in the past 2 weeks, has over 100 times the amount of new cases/day as Canada.

It needs to be noted that the acid-test on this will be the # of hospitalizations/fatalities resulting from the aggregate of total infections, that is what this is about - the severity and ramifications on a persons health of contracting covid... The 'ease' of contracting covid becomes extremely important once we understand the aforementioned.

I believe you have a point. As testing becomes more prevalent more positive cases are identified. In March and April a lot of these milder cases were likely not reported as testing was limited (due to supplies) meaning the height of the spike was under reported. However, the numbers today are likely more accurate. And a milder case can pass it to a whole bunch of people and it may not be mild to them. What is clear now that it is out of control in several states. If these are all mild cases, there will be no spike in hospitalizations and deaths. But we are seeing some stress on hospital systems in some states now. I suspect that deaths will also increase over the next couple of weeks. But you are correct, it won't be 1 for 1.

There is so much mania associated with this virus that a little perspective is desperately needed.

Live updates: Dozens of Fla. hospitals run out of ICU beds as U.S. approaches 3 million coronavirus cases

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/07/08/coronavirus-live-updates-us/

As the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases reported nationwide rapidly approaches 3 million, dozens of hospitals in Florida have run out of space in their intensive care units. Arizona is also swiftly approaching full capacity for ICU beds, while Texas, another hot spot, reported more than 10,000 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

That is grim. Don't think one can underestimate the risks involved. but many in those regions act as if there is no virus.

Just heard on BBC that areas i Melbourne are reverting back to lock down.......as another wave is hitting them.

We really cannot afford to relax or adopt a cavalier attitude about this.

Why isn't the WHO taking it seriously then?

Why the WHO won't say the coronavirus is airborne and driving the pandemic

Ypu really are fixated on deaths from covid. Gotta say, it's pretty sick the way you keep looking forward to more people dying.
You didn’t read the article , maybe you can answer the question , where are the deaths ?

The US testing is aggressive, but certainly not as aggressive as it can be, when compared to other First World nations. Here is a list of the top nations as it relates to testing for COVID:

1. Luxembourg 37.9% of population
2. Bahrain 36.5%
3. UAE 35.8%
4. Iceland 27.3%
5. Denmark 20.0%
6. Lithuania 16.4%
7. United Kingdom 15.9%
8. Russia 14.9%
9. Qatar 13.9%
10. Cyprus 13.8%
11. Singapore 13.0%
12. Israel 12.6%
13. Portugal 12.5%
14. Spain 12.3%
15. USA 11.7%
38. Canada 8.0%

It should be noted that the United States has 3.3 times (per-capita) the amount of cases as Canada, and in the past 2 weeks, has over 100 times the amount of new cases/day as Canada.

Nobody obviously wants more fatalities, since it will indirectly affect the Canadian economy, and prolong the border closing. Having said that, ICU units have nearly reached capacity in Florida, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Tennessee, and The Carolina's.
You know that most ICU’s operate at or over ninety percent capacity in normal Times .

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new here. I created a new thread in International News asking what was the truth behind Covid 19 and posting some links to articles on it before I saw this thread. Now that I see this thread, I'm not sure what I should do- delete it and post the questions here or just post the questions here and leave my post up as well?

Just leave it up. It will get derailed soon enough anyway.

Trudeau led his country out of a pandemic while Trump's lack of leadership leaves the US in deep crisis

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/08/poli...rus-north-american-trade-agreement/index.html

(CNN)For months, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's hair kept growing.

As the coronavirus pandemic kept barbershops closed to customers, his tidy trim grew into a wave that evolved eventually into a mop with bangs. For some, the mane came to embody the shared sacrifices that Trudeau -- quarantined at his home in Ottawa -- was asking fellow Canadians to endure to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Things progressed differently 450 miles south in Washington.

I'm not sure it matters too much. What you did previously is understandable. Probably no harm in reposting the questions. Welcome to the forum. :)
