Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

Well there are good things.

I can spend my weekend posting on here and watching funny YouTube videos; playing on the XBOX; watch DVDs; reading that good book I'm halfway through; listening to music; drinking those nice two bottles of white wine I've had for a while. So it's not all bad.
There ya go. Excellent !!!

This forum is a pretty good physically distanced meeting place ;-)

Speaking of wine........... I think that a glass of same is in order ;-)

How much does it cost street people and destitute seniors each year in taxes? It all works out basically on our ability to pay.

Street people pay taxes? On what? Their tents? The piece of sidewalk or park they are parked on?

Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

It's really affecting the company I work for.

There are two shifts of a total of 110 people - one which is 6am to 2pm and one which is 2pm to 10pm. I'm on the 2pm to 10pm shift.

The company has decided to furlough two-thirds of its workforce, from 110 people to 41.

The government has said it will pay 80% of the wages of those who can't work because of all this. Those of my company who have been furloughed have been told the government might not be able to pay their wages for all the months they are being furloughed and that they might end up being made redundant when it's all over.

I'm one of the lucky 41 who haven't been furloughed, and now there is just one shift from 8am to 4pm starting Monday. I'm not happy with the sudden change of shift from what I'm used to and suddenly having to get up at around 6:30am each workday but at least I'm still guaranteed full wages every month and not worry about redundancy.

I've heard they are mainly keeping on those with excellent punctuality and attendance and the order pickers (of which I'm one) who regularly meet the daily picking target.

Be grateful, Blackleaf.............you are one of the lucky ones. I am happy to hear your job is secure.

Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

It's all very stressful and anxiety-inducing and to top it all off I'm going to have to spend a warm and sunny spring weekend not being allowed to go out except to buy food, partake in fairly brief exercise or visit a GP or hospital, but I just keep telling myself that my grandparents had to go through much much worse.

Hopefully it'll all be over fairly soon.

Welcome to the sequestered life, Blackleaf. It's not all that bad.

I think we should all partake in a mass forum-wide bout of wine drinking this weekend to keep the morale up.

So they arent paying are they?

Well if you consider some losing their homes over it as not paying, okay then.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/14/health-insurance-medical-bankruptcy-debt

“I have amassed over $400,000 in medical bills I need to pay, and still have at least six months before I get a disability hearing. So I owe over $400,000 in medical bills, have lost my house and I live on the street now, with no end in sight,” he said.

Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

Better than some in some areas, average in most and absolutely horrific in others.

It could be stellar if the system wasn't so abused by patients and staff.

If Canadians saw the bill for a common sprain after a trip through the ED or seeing an MD for the sniffles it would give perspective make people think twice about usage.
Many of those that abuse the system have psychological problems. when they are referred to the appropriate serves they can get the appropriate help. For eg: all ER's should have a psych staff either on call or on duty so that after a patient is assessed to have problems......they can be seen sooner than later.

It's lucky I can post at all. I broke my previous phone so I've not been able to post since Sunday. So now I've got a brand new one. It was one of just three items I was allowed to buy at the supermarket. So I'm glad I'm back. I can't stand having no internet.

Re: COVIDD-19 'Pandemic'

This is not the time to be suicidal or have mental health problems, and expect help from the system. These types of services are the first to go, when the health care system is overwhelmed. If the pandemic get bad enough, I would not expect much help if I had a concussion, minor laceration, or bad sprain either.
this kind of crisis can create psych issues. Anxiety, depression, etc. People with chronic conditions can become worse due to the stress. Most can be handled by their physicians and psychiatrists. These patients have to be dealt with too. A crisis like this stressful for everyone and some who are vulnerable..... don't cope as well. That is just a fact. Crisis like this can be a trigger.
