I haven’t really followed the impeachment process for the current US president, and I went to bed early and didn’t even realize there was a state of the Union address yesterday. I don’t know the contents of the speech, and all I’ve done is just skimmed the headlines this morning in the news from my phone before I hit the shower and head off to work... So I am about as uninformed as anybody can be on this topic. What I can say though is Nancy Pelosi ripping up that speech behind the current sitting US president regardless of what kind of a tool he may or may not be is hugely disrespectful. That actual alone leaves a sour taste in my mouth without knowing anything else about the situation. What a petty grandstanding action on the part of this Nancy Pelosi.
I too have been paying little attention to this, Ron other than reading the odd story about the impeachment process. Didn't bother to tune into the State of the Union address as there was a re-run of All the Presidents Men on Hollywood Suite - much more entertaining than listening to the President - and I doubted I'd learn anything new anyway.

As for your comment about Pelosi ripping up the speech - it was about what I'd expect from her considering everything else I've read or seen about the woman.

From all appearances it does seem that the President will manage to survive the impeachment vote and may very likely go on to win another term. The Democrats are so busy infighting and screwing up (see the mess that is the Iowa caucus) that any chance they might have had of winning the election could be fast fading.

As a Canadian my interest in the entire affair is peripheral. From what I read on this thread it appears that many Canadians figure they have a vested interest in the outcome of both the impeachment and the election and have become entrenched in their stands for or against what is happening. Considering not a single one of them can vote, it seems to me that this interest might just be purely voyeuristic but then I could be wrong - as I have been before.

I can understand how you may come to this conclusion however there are a great number of people who are merely interested in international politics, much like people have interests in other areas. And seeing that the politics in the US does have a ripple effect throughout the world in many areas, the outcome of American elections is something of interest and worthy of attention.

Some things are worth standing for.
What , he knew what was coming . He choose to go , could have stayed home like AOC but no , let’s do some grandstanding is a better idea . But he was successful at getting his name in the paper .

Mitt Romney is a fukking Asshat.
He's not a Republican, he's a traitor to the Party.
He will fail in the next election, a soar loser that couldn't succeed himself as President.

His GOD!! Really, do you know what his Mormon faith is based on?? Not to mention his magical underwear. A joke created in 1820.

The Republican Party should kick him out.

I can't believe at one time I thought he might make a good President. Never again, he's a Democrat Door Mat.

I don't refute for a moment that the outcome of the American election is of interest and worthy of attention, Mockingbird. I do question those who become so entrenched in their positions that they indulge in verbal fisticuffs, name-calling and other forms of intimidation. Taking a step back from their positions might offer some sense of balance but I doubt any of those who do participate in such forms of commenting are interested in anything but their own rhetoric.

♫ One of these things is not like the other, one of these things doesn't belong. ♫

Mother Teresa
Edward R. Murrow
Walter Cronkite
Stephen Hawking
Neil Armstrong
Sally Ride
and
Rush Limbaugh

Trump decorating Limbaugh last night with the Medal of Freedom was a reality TV show stunt at its best, meant to both please his base and anger his opposition. Rush Limbaugh is a bigoted, racist misogynistic blowhard and his being awarded this medal is obscene.

And before anyone thinks to comes back at me with the cancer card, save it. I have nothing but sympathy for him with his diagnosis and wish for him success in his treatment. For me that is above and separate from politics.

You've hit the nail on the head there, Mowich. There's two or three people on the forum who Trump has taken over their entire life for three years to the point they are obsessed with him and most other people are tired of them. They don't seem to realize 60 million people actually voted for him. (He'll likely get 70 million votes in November) :)

You as well gave no credence to his charitable endeavours . His job was shock jock , that’s what he did , and did it well . His numbers attest to that . It was his work away from the mic that prompted that medal .

In her defence Trump did snub her at the beginning of the evening when he turned his back on her while she was extending her hand to shake .[

First, if he did actually snub her it was poor form, as would be expected from him. I'm not convinced it was intentional, however. He was already turning around to face the House when she extended her hand...I'm not sure he meant to snub her, but who knows.

Second, it's not much of a defense...he didn't shake my hand so I'm going to pull an infantile tantrum and rip up the speech. Classless immature buffoonery. If there were any grownups in the room last night it certainly wasn't her. If you actually do consider her action a legit "defense", then you could must also believe that in Trump's defense, she has been trying to kneecap him for 2 years with bullshit impeachment charges, Russia collusion hoax trials, and just about anything else she could pull out of her ass.

Truth is, it was desperate theatrics...she's lost complete control of the radical players in her party long ago and she is now irrelevant. Her days as speaker are numbered... and she still has just enough marbles rolling around upstairs to know it.

Sen. Romney to vote to convict Trump on charge of abuse of power, becoming the first Republican to break ranks

The decision by Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the party's presidential nominee in 2012, undercuts the united GOP defense of President Trump. Several Republicans have said the president's interactions with Ukraine were inappropriate but not impeachable.

I agree with you. I, since joining this forum, have been called a multitude of names. I have been referred to as "it", have been trolled from post to post, have been told my opinions are shit and have even been told to f-off and die, but have not retaliated in the same manner. I choose to look past the insults, instead looking for reasonable debate without personal attacks. It's beneath us all quite frankly and reduces conversation to an intellect not worthy of response from anyone.

There is no suspense as to the outcome. It is what it is and so now, on to the election. It will get crazy nuts from here to November.

Nancy Pelosi is an old battle ax and long past her best before date . The Democrats have shot themselves in the foot with all this impeachment sh-t as far as I can tell . The Independent voter that calls the election surely can’t support that party . That said we re elected the Liberals .
