OTTAWA — Andre Pratte announced his resignation from the Senate on Monday night, just as the federal election results were rolling in.
The Independent senator from Quebec posted his resignation letter on Twitter to explain his decision.
André Pratte resigns from the Senate
On October 10th, I sent my letter of resignation to Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada. My resignation from the Senate is effective tonight, Monday October 21st, at 9 :30 PM, Eastern Time. pic.twitter.com/68qdedS6TQ

“In any professional journey, there can come a time when we realize that we simply … do not have the skills and motivation required to accomplish the task we have been entrusted with,” wrote Pratte, who was appointed to the Senate in 2016 by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.
“After three and a half years in the Senate of Canada, I have come to this conclusion.”
Pratte said it saddened him to betray the trust that Trudeau had in him — but he added it would be even more of a betrayal to continue in a role without meeting the level of excellence expected.
He said his resignation had nothing to do with the election and he chose the specific timing to ensure it would not be a distraction from the campaign.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my admiration for the senators who sit in the chamber today, as well as for the Senate’s devoted personnel,” said the former newspaper columnist and editor.
“I worked alongside individuals with exceptional skills and dedication. They certainly do not deserve the harsh judgment that too many Canadians hold in regard to this great institution.”

a levy to be paid by a company every time it replaces a worker with a machine, part of a strategy to ease the impact of the growth of artificial intelligence.

Why go small, levy a tax on every company that has an employee that uses a machine presently as that used to be a person, bit drunk but a person all the same. Give the 'out of a job person' a free 'Travel BC' card so he can at least help the tourism industry survive. Perhaps have it work at the stores that supply parts to fix old machines in case somebody that used to help you dies while on vacation.

The end is nigh

The NDP will be able to press the Liberals on this now.
Why don't the Libs and Cons hook up. It isn't like either of them caught SNC, or anybody else. Probably even save some bribery money for 'whomever' along the way.

The little guys could join up so no majority can be formed and run on a platform that Canadians need a Federal Government or Provincial ones but not both in this day and age that started with 'electricity'.
As it stands a simgle independent could get a petition going that would make every bill something that would have to be on a referendum vote. Like the SNC thing should have been and the people of Canada would decide if they could remain in business or not, without all the hidden drama from both the Cons and the Libs. Show they were working hand in hand and the military would be appointing the next Government employees. (ones that are good at using computers)

IN OTHER WORDS - proportional representation would NOT have changed anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But of course your neat little prop/rep chart IS A LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reality is there would have been all sorts of SMALL and often lunatic fringe parties that would have got onto your chart and messed it up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Five years ago - Toronto Red Star told us it cost AT LEAST $100 grand to run a campaign for an MP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS with ALL GOVT things - that cost HAS GONE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That cost translates into fringe groups NOT BOTHERING to run in an election because it is a waste of money..........................

for NO RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just LOOK at the Max Bernier results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy is an EXPERIENCED and knowledgeable politician and yet made NO political HEADWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bernier did not even win his own seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT- and this is the CRITICAL FACT - Proportional Representation WOULD HAVE GIVEN Bernier some seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proportional Representation WOULD HAVE GIVEN Conservatives more seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proportional Representation WOULD HAVE ALLOWED ALL SORTS OF LUNATIC FRINGE PARTIES..............................

to get seats in our parliament!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Italy has proportional representation - AND also has PERPETUAL POLITICAL CHAOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proportional representation ENSURES A TOTAL LACK of long term planning for anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the Italians HAVE PROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Israel has proportional representation and many people DEPLORE the endless debate and perpetual wrangling that comes with......

having EVERY GOVT be a minority govt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Israelis manage to make proportional representation work for them because THEY ARE UNDER SIEGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Israelis have no choice but to cut through the bullsh+t and resolve issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So that Muslims will NOT drive the Jews into the sea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither Italy OR CANADA have such motivation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Zealand TRIED proportional representation ......................................

AND WENT BACK to first past the post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because of the political CHAOS and stagnation proportional representation brings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two kinds of people who see advantage in proportional representation......................................

those who see an opportunity for THEMSELVES as the political system opens up to accept the lunatic fringe............................

and those - mainly LIE-berals WHO LIKE THE IDEA of turning our Parliament into an OUT OF CONTROL spending machine..........

with NO OFF SWITCH because organizing so many lunatic parties and huge political egos...................................

is WORSE THAN HERDING CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The grapes are indeed sour lol
trudOWE couldn't even manage to pull off something so simple as legalizing weed without numerous major fukkups. Do you really think he can get a pipeline built? Maybe if he gives TM to the native bands along the route and gets out of the way.
