Will Saudi-Canadian conflict affect Montreal health care?

http://globalnews.ca/news/4392346/will-saudi-canadian-conflict-affect-montreal-health-care/

A new online petition penned by a nurse working at the McGill University Health Centre alleges there could be terrible consequences if medical students from Saudi Arabia are forced to leave Canada.

“It would be catastrophic if all the Saudi medical residents were to leave as it would strain our health system, which is already struggling with patient volumes,” reads the petition written by Megan Shelton

I had no idea that Canada was so dependent on Saudi Arabia for it's Health Care. I understood Nova Scotia being under a strain because I imagine it would be a hardship place to work and not many Docs from other provinces would want to practice there.

But Montreal? That is one of Canada's premier cities.

Canada's relationship with Saudi Arabia is none of your business.

Only on some maps, others have a French flag on a pin stuck in it. The one I use has anything east of Manitoba as being home of people who had to flee their own land or be hung as traitors, decided to found a nation on that same principle. Kind of like the in-laws that show up uninvited, tolerated as it will be a short stay. Door hitting them on the ass every-time they leave just never seems to sink in, oh well.

You seem upset.

Perhaps it is because you are coming to the realization that your glorious free health care system is propped by foreign money and foreign doctors.

That and the cancellation of military equipment just being in the wind is enough to do this to him. In the real world it would be equal to convulsions.

I don't think they've cancelled the military contract yet.

But we'll see if Trudeau puts his money where his mouth is there.

It's "propped up" by our taxes as are every other public health care system on the planet. We do that instead of paying premiums to Aetna (I recall that a portion of my Quebec provincial income tax read like a health care premiium invoice ... good idea, so that you know what you are paying).

That'll be thousands of automotive jobs lost in London Ontario on the eve of another Trump freak-out where he slaps tarifs on "Canadian" automobiles (whatever those are).

The Liberals aren't that self-destructive. The Saudis will get their weapons.

In the real world what money bag saudis do is everybodies business.

The myth of 'free' health care no longer resonates with anyone save a gaggle of left field dreamers, in 2015, apologies to pc fans I hafta be gender specific here, man, woman with a child $12,055 to cover them and our imports.
To be clear our health care system is simply one really long waiting list.

Yes we were corrupted a bit by that money and those doctors. Lesson learned.

And the Saudis of course. Unless you know more than people who actually work in the Canadian Health Care System who are screaming for Trudeau to bow to the Saudi Prince or face dire consequences within the health system.

Of course they will. That goes to show that Justin the Groper could really care less about human rights.

For serious illness it is not line. Our health care is 2/3s as expensive as the American one. Lack of Saudi money will not put a dent in those numbers. There are thousands of med school graduates around the world desperate for a residency in a good hospital. We will be fine.

I trust the doctors and nurses know much more than you on this issue, and they are saying this is a disaster. If what you said had any truth to it they would not be pleading for Trudeau to unscrew what he has screwed up so badly.

This is a good part of the post. You've identified that the Canadian Health Care System relies upon foreign funding and foreign doctors. It is myth shattering I know, but it is good that you see it. You also have identified that the Canadian Education System must be lagging because of the need to put foreign students into Medical School over Canadians. I am sure many foreigners would like to send their people to be trained in Canada, but they don't have the DEEP POCKETS that Saudi Arabia does.

This is going to hurt good Canadians.

Northern Ontario,
We pay for our health care with our income tax which is almost double that which Americans pay...
Just check the tax rate on $75,000 in both countries

All the West, including the USA, rely on foreign doctors. Trudeau did not screw up. Saudis are trying to corrupt Canada. Make an example of us. We can now decide what to do knowing what the cost will be to go with the Saudis or not.

Just check the tax rate on $75,000 in both countries

And we get great healthcare and good schools for that money. Also an all in this together culture that is the envy of the world.

You can't look at what all the West does or what the West relies upon. You are the nation of Canada, you are not the United States, France or Germany, etc. What many Western nations do, Canada cannot do.

Saudi Arabia is doing this because they can do this to Canada.

Actually, it is not. Canada is a wonderful country, but seriously, it is not the envy of the world.

This is why Canada is in the jam they're in. Myths like that.

Anyhow, it's not your fault Ducky. It is just what you've been taught all these years

That's fine if it is also noticed the expense comes building the facilities and buying the equipment rather than it is based on how many people come through the door each hour. At some point the place and the equipment must be paid for and the price drop way down. I have to assume the 'West' doesn't export good heath as it is a reason other nations have to play our silly games.

YES. It is the norm for countries in the West to get doctors as immigrants. I can compare if I want.

Yes it is. 3 Canadian cities made it into the top 20 cities in the world to live in.

I pretty much read and think for myself. I love it when I see taxi drivers (with accents) listening to the cbc. The social capital that makes Canada what it is, is shared by things like that.

Being envied is NOT a constructive objective ........being RESPECTED and humanitarian is a healthier and more realistic objective. and doing it with dignity and intelligence. AND RESPECT for OTHERS.

Absolutely. And how do we keep that respect if we get on our knees in front of the Saudis and bow. There may be some intelligence/security reason for doing it. But not a principled one.

So, did you add the health premiums that the Americans pay to their income tax bill that are included in ours?

Did it change, Pascal?
