(Yeah- dead broke Toronto LIE-berals think they have $400 grand to waste trying to persuade us not to worry about the stated Muslim intention to re-write much of our constitution to make it easier to impose Sharia Law and erase ALL civil rights of women and to make it ILLEGAL for us to complain about THEIR violent and racists inclinations! If Muslims had their way- LIE-berals would be donating our tax money to terror group Hamas! Oh- wait- they ALREADY ARE! Our idiot Boy Justin RESTORED funding to Hamas that had first been offered by LIE-beral Chretien - and that had been cut by Conservatives- to Hamas just as soon as he was elected!)
And, of course, there’s the very controversial M-103 anti-Islamophobia motion passed in the House of Commons last March.
(The Islamophobia “Motion” appears designed to be a weapon to be used to SILENCE ANY critic of ANY LIE-beral policy- and there ARE A LOT of critics! And nobody has explained why we should support anti white Muslim radicals over Israeli citizens who do not wish to hurt us for any religious reasons!)
Now council’s newest social justice warrior, Councillor Neethan Shan, wants to lecture us about Islamophobia again.
Shan, a heavily union-backed NDPer who came to council via trustee roles on the Toronto District and York Region school boards, intends to put forward a motion at council next week designating Jan. 29 as a “Day of Remembrance and Action on Islamophobia.”
That day marks the first anniversary of the tragic shooting at the Islamic Cultural Centre, a mosque in Quebec City. A lone gunman opened fire while people were gathered to pray, killing six and injuring 19.
It did not escape my attention that council doesn’t meet until Jan. 31, two days after the proposed day against Islamophobia but perhaps the councillor is thinking ahead to next year.
Shan didn’t respond to numerous requests for comment Wednesday.
(Yes- I would suggest that the chickens on city council do not want to spend the next year listening to people bitch about their pro Muslim bigotry- as the municipal election draws ever closer! LIE-berals are so much more comfortable with something slipped under the radar that they can later CLAIM has majority support even when it does not!)
But in a statement issued by his office, he says this tragic event is the time to come together to “reject hate and bigotry in all forms.
“The national tragedy that occurred last January should serve to remind us all of the impact that Islamophobia, racism and bigotry can have on the lives of people,” he said, noting this is an opportunity to take action against “Islamophobia and Islamophobic violence” in the city and the country.
Hmmm. I shouldn’t be the least bit surprised that council’s newest SJW would come up with another way to prop up his almost singular focus on those he perceives to be “racialized and oppressed.” One wonders when he actually does the real boring work of a city councillor.
Torontonians aren’t Islamophobic
After all, this is the same guy — who along with his sister-in-arms Kristyn Wong-Tam at council last fall — tried to push for the city clerk’s office to come up with a made-in-Toronto policy on when and how to recognize massacres and genocides.
For one thing, Torontonians aren’t Islamophobic. Nor are Canadians.
(Shouldn’t these anti white bigots be focussed on fixing potholes and replacing worn out water pipe before whole neighborhoods get flooded yet again?)
But if Shan is so worried about hate and bigotry in all forms- not to mention genocides- why not a Day of Remembrance and Action on hate crimes against LGBTQ people, Yazidis, Jews, people with disabilities, Indigenous, blacks, Christians, Catholics, Hindus and to truly embrace those who feel oppressed, let’s throw in those who are weight-, height- and follicle-challenged.
Perhaps I’m being cheeky with the last two categories but there is a mounting backlash in the city against the motion for precisely that fact– namely that it singles out one group for attention.
Jewish community activist Vivienne Ziner has posted a petition on social media against the motion because she feels it is “discriminatory and racist” to highlight one lone group. “Stop making one group more important than all the others,” she said Wednesday. “It’s divisive and it’s creating a problem where there isn’t one.”
(Oh but LIE-berals see a chance to BUY Votes by creating the problem and keeping LIE-beral places open on the gravy train is more important than the bigotry and hostility they are creating!)
B’nai Brith Canada CEO Michael Mostyn agrees, noting that racism affects many communities and it is never “appropriate to elevate the suffering of one group” over another.
He said to do so “risks entrenching racial divisions and social discord in Canadian society” over time.
(Of course- one has only to look at the array of criminals with serious outstanding arrest warrants that Black Lives Matter Bigots want to defend! Robert Walker, president of Hasbara Fellowships, an on-campus Jewish advocacy group, says since Jews are 4 1/2 times more likely to be the target of hate crimes than Muslims, a day opposing hate should be an “inclusive day opposed to all forms of hatred.”
“But if Councillor Shan is intent on singling out one group for special mention as hate crime victims, why not the Jews, the number one target,” he said. “Why the cherry picking?”

First she directed her ire at Liberal leader Kathleen Wynne for not handling an apparent issue between former Liberal cabinet minister Glen Murray and the mayor of Caledon.
Then NDP leader Andrea Horwath put PC leader Doug Ford in her crosshairs — claiming he has “failed the test of leadership” for refusing to release a fully costed platform and for refusing to “come clean” on the “multiple nomination scandals” and the 407 data breach.
“For everyone who wants to clean up politics, I invite you to vote for us,” she told the media Friday morning. “Change for the better means cleaning up politics once and for all.”
The best was when Horwath contended she was “disappointed” the focus in this election has gotten so “off track into mudslinging” instead of the issues people care about — immediately after she’d flung a dumptruck of mud at both Wynne and Ford.
Oh my how the N-Dippers are irony-challenged.
(And our election has descended into low farce as LIE-beral Wynne-bag- she of the endless scandals and “creative accounting” that turns budget deficits into surpluses- would be the one to point out that the NDP fiscal plan has a serious hole in it- to the tune of nearly $7 billion dollars over the 4 year term! And that is WITHOUT considering the cost of turning all of Ontari-owe into a “sanctuary province” as NDPers have just told us they will! Another morning in denial, this time in the small, hot campaign office of her Don Valley West candidate Amara Possian, who flanked Horwath as she spoke, along with another frumpy NDP rent-a-crowd, ready to obediently clap and nod on cue.
At one point — my hair about to stand on end — I told her I found it just a “bit rich” that she was complaining about Wynne and Ford and raising the idea of “integrity” when she’s absolutely refused to acknowledge she has a problem with at least a dozen radical candidates — let alone deal with them.
(And of course there is every reason to believe that federal NDP airhead Jagmeet Singh is hiding a similar collection of anti white and anti west LOONS as well!)
I hate to sound like a broken record but Horwath’s hypocrisy is beyond appalling.
For nearly two weeks now, she has deflected and tap danced around the fact that she has a posse of controversial candidates running for the NDP — ones that have posted Hitler memes on Facebook- Tasleem Riaz denied doing so; who’ve been arrested for civil disobedience and advocate obstruction, boycotts and land seizure as part of what is described as “peaceful” protest- Jessica Bell; candidates who hate poppies- Laura Kaminker and Jan Johnstone; who have been hostile toward Israel- Joel Harden, Johnstone, Diane Ballantyne and Rima Berns McGown and who have been hostile toward police- Jill Andrew and Gurratan Singh.
“On the contrary I’m very much confident in the candidates I have,” Horwath said, feigning a smile and refusing to look at me.
(I have no doubt Horvath IS confident in the candidates- one cannot become leader of NDP without having a very cockeyed world view to share with the rank and file airheads! NDP values and judgement are on full view here and its ALL QUESTIONABLE! From their hatred of Israel, to their loathing of any company that makes a profit, to their utterly muddled environmental and economic plans which demand that the Kinder Morgan pipeline be built right before carbon crap and trade taxes KILL the Alberta oil patch! NDP logic is NO logic and Horvath is simply following federal NDPer Mulcaire down Alice`s rabbit hole! Mulcaire told us in 2015 that he wanted to make major investments in auto industry to save jobs and he supported carbon crap and trade taxes that would kill off car sales! Irony challenged INDEED! (Yes- the issue of union rights arose when some guy dared to actually take the parental maternity leave that NDPers have championed- the guy went off for 10 months to help his spouse- the new Mom- and in return got a bunch of nasty e-mails about just how NOT dedicated to his job he looked! Do as we say not as we do is NDP mantra! NDPers do love being irony challenged!)

Look, I’m not at all surprised with the way Horwath has handled- or should I say mishandled- the revelations.
Aside from her lack of intestinal fortitude, it has been my experience covering politics at both City Hall and Queen’s Park for nearly two decades that the N-Dippers are the most sanctimonious, unaccountable, humourless and intolerant group going. Never mind their reckless spending habits, their disdain for the taxpayer and their “do as I say, not as I do” attitudes.
Still this tap-dancing woman could be our next Premier and her Rogue’s Gallery of MPP-wannabes her Cabinet.

Yes it does because "to cross the border is illegal" in both countries. However, in Canada we do not separate families and we do give them a chance to state their case before making a decison as to whether or not the situation allows them to stay. Furthermore our country is smaller and the influx of immigrants is a greater per capita, than those entering the US. The burden for us is heavier than for the US.
As for arresting people at the border, it is generally Canadians who are arrested at our borders, because they are attempting to import things illegally. Americans and other nationals are generally sent back to their home countries.
By the way, this marvellous solution, implemented by Trump,has not deterred immgrants from fleeing to the American border which in fact has increased by 5%.

Legal immigration goes on as it always has. These have applied and have been approved before they arrive and are not arrested nor put in detention.
We have many legal ports of entry into Canada and I go through one or another many times a year. Those who enter illegally MUST be in fear of their lives. No country in the world allows entry into the country without some kind of reasonable verification of who they are and what their purpose for entry is. We do not take away their chidren and simply toss then into jail until they go through processing. We either keep the family if approved or send them all back.

Global outrage is growing over Trump's hardline approach to people crossing illegally into the U.S. from Mexico — a policy that puts adults through the criminal justice system while sending their children to detention camps. Critics are calling on Canada to urgently respond by suspending the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) with the United States, but Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen said the government will analyze the situation to determine the impact of the Trump administration's policy on due process, appeals rights and migrants' ability to make asylum claims.
"We have to see the impact of these changes on the domestic asylum system in the U.S. to see whether the U.S. continues to meet its obligations, not just to the international community, but also to the Safe Third Country Agreement," he said.
Hussen said that ongoing analysis is being carried out by both countries, as well as the UN's refugee agency. He said he could not provide any time frame for the review. In past, the minister has said the 14-year-old agreement — which requires that migrants crossing the Canada/U.S. border make their refugee claims in the first "safe" country they come to, whether it's Canada or the U.S. — is working in Canada's interests but should be modernized.
According to data provided to CBC News by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, 1,949 asylum seekers were turned back at official border points in 2017 — refused entry to Canada under the STCA.
That's up dramatically from previous years. In 2016, 731 were refused; in 2015, 418 were turned away and in 2014 just 456 were denied entry.
Fearful fleeing Trump
"The jump in numbers means that individuals are genuinely, legitimately and justifiably afraid about how they will be treated and about whether they will be given due process under the Trump administration's regime," said Aris Daghighian, a refugee lawyer and executive member of the Canadian Refugee Lawyers Association.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on the weekend that nearly 2,000 migrant children were separated from their families between April 19 and May 31, when the Trump administration was cracking down on illegal immigration along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The UN has said separating families amounts to an "arbitrary and unlawful" interference in family life and calls it a "serious violation" of the rights of children.
Despite international outrage and condemnation, Trump defended the practice today.
"The United States will not be a migrant camp and it will not be a refugee-holding facility," he said.
Daghighian said it's clear the U.S. is not meeting its international obligations on refugees, human rights and rights of the child, and that Canada should not be its immigration partner under the STCA.
"The problem here now is that both the conditions of detention — subjecting individuals to cruel and unusual separation from their children — but also the grounds for which the U.S. is willing to offer protection are being severely limited," he said. "So in that way, Canada can't be confident that the U.S. will abide by its international obligations that it will provide protection to these individuals under a fair process."
Failing to denounce the U.S. and shred the agreement would amount to a departure from Canada's record of leading on humanitarian issues and would send the wrong message to the world, Daghighian said.

While Canada deals in much smaller numbers, this country does hold children in immigration detention centres. Statistics from the Canada Border Services Agency show that 150 minors (aged under 18) were detained with a parent or guardian over a nine-month period that ended Dec. 31, 2017, and another five were held unaccompanied.
In November 2017, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale issued a directive on the treatment of minors in Canada's immigration detention system. It said that, "as much as humanly possible," children must be kept out of detention and with their families.
Citing the best interests of the child as its primary consideration, the directive said alternatives to detention must be considered, such as cash or performance bonds and community supervision.
NDP immigration critic Jenny Kwan said the developments south of the border underscore the fact that the U.S. is no longer a 'safe third country'.
She called it "astounding" that the Liberal government would consider keeping Canada in an agreement with a country that is flagrantly flouting international law on the rights of refugees and children.
"If we continue on with the status quo in the face of this inhumane development, then Canada is complicit to the situation," she said.
Asked today if Canada can still consider the U.S. a safe country in light of the crackdown, Transport Minister Marc Garneau, chair of the cabinet committee on U.S. relations, said: "Of course we can."

Statistics from the Canada Border Services Agency show that 150 minors (aged under 18) were detained with a parent or guardian over a nine-month period that ended Dec. 31, 2017, and another five were held unaccompanied.
In November 2017, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale issued a directive on the treatment of minors in Canada's immigration detention system. It said that, "as much as humanly possible," children must be kept out of detention and with their families.
Citing the best interests of the child as its primary consideration, the directive said alternatives to detention must be considered, such as cash or performance bonds and community supervision.
NDP immigration critic Jenny Kwan said the developments south of the border underscore the fact that the U.S. is no longer a 'safe third country'.
She called it "astounding" that the Liberal government would consider keeping Canada in an agreement with a country that is flagrantly flouting international law on the rights of refugees and children.
"If we continue on with the status quo in the face of this inhumane development, then Canada is complicit to the situation," she said.
Asked today if Canada can still consider the U.S. a safe country in light of the crackdown, Transport Minister Marc Garneau, chair of the cabinet committee on U.S. relations, said: "Of course we can."
