I guessed you missed the previous multiple announcements from Trudeau stating that he would defend Canada's interest. It's old news, but Trump just needed someone he thought he could bully.

Did JT say it to Trump's face or behind Trump's back?

Anyway, I got onto the plane. I think that Justin probably didn’t know that Air Force One has about 20 televisions. And I see the television, and he’s giving a news conference about how he will not be pushed around by the United States. And I say, push him around? We just shook hands. It was very friendly.

I have a good relationship with Justin Trudeau. I really did. Other than he had a news conference that he had because he assumed I was in an airplane and I wasn’t watching. He learned. He learned that is going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada. He learned. You can’t do that. You can’t do that. We left. We had a very good relationship. I have a good relationship with Justin.

These quotes are from Maclean's so you know it is watered down to make Justine look better

ANyone that cares about the economy.

roflmfao.

TrudOWE and his Merry band of clowns keep missing the boat. Instead of pissisng and moaning about the US slapping import duties on Canadian products, all of which go to the US government we shoule be placing huge export duties on all products the US needs. Then the duties go to Canada.

It's strange.............people keep whining about Trump being arrogant yet no one is more arrogant than Pretty Boy! If he treated Trump 1/10 as good as he treated the refugees (illegal aliens) there wouldn't be a problem!

Yes, that's what the Liberals did, and now all Canada is going to pay for it.

You're right. Trump screwed up by backing Trudeau into a corner and not giving him a chance to save face easily. Trudeau screwed up by not de-escalating the situation when given the opportunity.

If I were Trudeau, I would have ignored Trump's foolishness, gone on to unilaterally drop all intentional trade barriers, and then save face by just explaining that I would have done that independently of Trump's actions because it was the right thing to do for Canada but that Trump's actions actually made it more difficult to do so since it now gives the false impression that we'd dropped those barriers because of Trump's actions rather than in spite of them. Just going on the record and making clear that Canada's unilateral actions were in spite of Trump and not because of him would have been a easy way for Trudeau to save face under the circumstances.

Gyprock, Smokes, alcohol, Pretty much everything that is imported that is also manufactured in Canada.

Even Hong Kong tariffs tobacco and alcohol. I can still agree to protectionism for public-policy reasons such as to protect public health for example.

Then how f-ck can you have any form of a conversation about tarrifs and barriers?

Based on basic rules of economics. Tariffs decrease economic efficiency. That might be good for undesirable industries like tobacco and alcohol, I suppose, but not healthy food.

You can't.
Just the typical Trump haters going absolutely crazy.

Am I a Trump hater going absolutely crazy? I actually agree with at least some of his ideas.

My point exactly. If something is harmful, we can ban it or if less harmful then tariff it for public-policy reasons. Beyond that though, our tariff policy is just way too broad.
