There’s a simple solution to the Trans Mountain Extension crisis. Trouble is, the simple solution isn’t easy. So the Trudeau government is avoiding the simple solution like the plague.
(Simple solution is not easy is a polite way of saying LIE-berals don’t want to follow the easy path- NOR the logical path either! Hypocrisy is IN!)
Six weeks ago, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit on the simple solution. After meeting in Ottawa with B.C.’s NDP Premier John Horgan and Alberta’s NDP Premier Rachel Notley, Trudeau pledged to introduce a bill affirming the federal government’s right to protect interprovincial trade, like pipelines.
Oh, sure, B.C. insists Ottawa cannot force through a pipeline across its territory. But nearly every constitutional expert not paid by Victoria is pretty sure Ottawa has that power.
Simple.
(Ah! The Devil is in the details! Our idiot Boy Justin has promised to close down the Cdn oil patch and the easiest way to do so is to simply deny it access to markets by stalling forever on pipelines! Certainly the latest set of environmental tests is clearly designed to stall till after the 2019 federal election! Sadly LIE-berals failed to figure out how much real support there really is to be had on environmental issues- we all want the OTHER GUY to clean up and leave US alone! So now LIE-berals are being forced- or so it seems- into buying the Kinder Morgan pipeline- in the midst of the NAFTA MESS- LIE-berals cannot bully legitimate investors! So offering to buy the pipeline means LIE-berals can stall with some of the pressure off!)
Almost certainly, B.C. would go to court to challenge the validity of a federal pipeline law. Who knows, it might even win a temporary injunction stopping construction on Kinder Morgan’s project until the court challenge could be heard.
But eventually the courts would very likely side with Ottawa. And in the meantime, Kinder Morgan might be persuaded to keep the project alive because it would be obvious the federal government has the company’s back. There would no longer be any doubt the Trudeau government and Kinder Morgan had the same goal.
One of the big reasons KM may bail on Trans Mountain next week is that the Trudeau Liberals have never done anything concrete to demonstrate their support for the pipeline. Only lip service. A bill might change that.
(Reality is Kinder Morgan has listened carefully to the part of LIE-beral policy that explains how they will use carbon crap and trade taxes to drive up the price of fossil fuel till it is so costly that we give up using it and turn to the suddenly- by comparison- bargain priced LIE-beral supplied mouldy green electricity whose price is already so high it is destroying the Wynne-bag LIE-berals! Kinder Morgan investors have $3.7 billion dollars invested in that stalleld pipe and they will not sit patiently for ever! The pressure to DO SOMETHING is on LIE-berals!)
(But the future holds odd solutions if LIE-beral scheming holds sway! Kinder Morgan is asking itself if it wants to do business in such a poisoned political climate as LIE-beral Canada! A new LIE-beral bill full of weasel word clauses that PRETEND to offer support will not change reality!)
But the simple way is not the easy way. It’s a matter of electoral math.
The federal Liberals have three seats in Alberta and almost no hope of winning that many again in next year’s federal election. In most polls, Prime Minister Trudeau is more unpopular in Alberta than Alberta NDP Premier Notley. And the Liberals’ support is below where it was during the National Energy Program in the 1980s.
(Yes the Pierre Trudeau authored NEP persuaded Albertans that “the eastern bastards should freeze in the dark”- so successful was Our Pierre in “helping” Alberta! And now his idiot Boy is starting up NEP 2.0!)
Yet it’s only in Alberta that tough, federal action would be a vote-getter.
By contrast, the Liberals have 18 MPs in B.C., most from major urban areas where the pipeline is more controversial. And Liberal strategists worry that each one’s re-election might be in jeopardy if the Trudeau government were to take firmer action.
So, if the simple solution is out, that leaves the easy one.
(Well- even that solution is not really workable in the long run! Civil service union Hogs were on side with the LIE-berals carbon crap and trade scam because they expected to benefit from it and get LOTS of new gravy- yet all they re getting is more taxes, lots more debt to cover the rapidly increasing cost to deal with the teeming swarms of illegals that LIE-berals have invited here but are desperate to hide from the angry public, and a gross spike in gasoline costs- that Hogs had expected to be shielded from! That the Elementary School Teachers of ETFO- the former staunch LIE-beral supporters of Ontari-owe LIE-berals- have now thrown their support behind Horvath and the NDP is no doubt an unpleasant shock to LIE-berals everywhere! Hog anger is rising almost as fast as general public rage!)
(Our idiot Boy may be screwing himself if he counts heavily on support from B.C. since the Greens and NDP are both well entrenched there and both espouse exactly the same style of LIE-beral policies! The 3 parties are interchangeable in very many ways but as yet B. C. voters do not seem to have connected high oil prices with LIE-beral policy! Nor have they counted on how much further oil prices will go if LIE-berals hold sway for another 4 years!)
The easy solution is to tax every Canadian for subsidies Ottawa can give to Kinder Morgan to keep the project alive at least until after the next federal campaign.
If the pipeline is still alive, at least officially, the federal Liberals won’t have to admit to pro-energy, pro-development voters that they have completely botched the pipeline file. Yet, if no real progress is being made in construction (a condition the Liberals can blame on the courts), then the Trudeauites won’t set off the full rage of anti-pipeline voters either.
(The even easier solution and the one LIE-berals are likely going for is to buy the Kinder Morgan pipeline and then put such a high price on finishing it that it NEVER gets finished! LIE-berals would also be happy to charge such high costs for any company wanting to use the pipeline that they would give up in despair! WE need to recall here the LIE-beral vision is for a CARBON FREE Canada and the more oil infrastructure LIE-berals control- the easier it will be to strangle it!)
Last week, when federal Finance Minster Bill Morneau said that if Kinder Morgan backed out of Trans Mountain he was confident many other investors would step forward, most financial and energy analysts admitted to being “perplexed.”
Who did Morneau imagine would replace Kinder Morgan? Enbridge? No. TransCanada? No. So who?
That’s the easy part.
There are 27.1 million potential investors – the combined federal tax filers of Canada.
(Problem is that those tax filers are- most of them- rather addicted to the oil that powers the farms that provide the food, allows them to get to work, is used to make all sorts of products- and most important of all- that oil fuels the myriad gas guzzling toys that Hogs play with during their generous holiday periods! How can Hogs fly to Florida for a round of golf in January if LIE-berals have cut off the flow of jet fuel? Residents of B.C. are showing their true colours as they rage at the current record price of gas- and LIE-berals truly want the price EVEN HIGHER! LIE-beral policy is spinning in circles like turds in a flushed toilet!)
The feds have the power to make every taxpayer chip in to buy Trans Mountain from Kinder Morgan, or to keep subsidizing the company’s bottom line so KM keeps control while also saying the project is still a go.
(We can be assured Kinder Morgan will not mind being paid to do nothing for a year or two- till LIE-beral policy stabilizes and they either choose to Sh+t or get off the pot and make a real choice about the pipeline! Who would mind getting a generous return on a pipeline investment that is not even complete or useable? Only Cdn tax payers will object and Our idiot Boy and his Climate Barbie Environment Minister McKenna have already told us they have no time for us critics! So LIE-berals MUST STALL for time- they want Kinder Morgan OUT of the news- and that means throwing OUR BORROWED money at an oil company to keep it quiet and patient till after October 2019! If LIE-berals do eke out another election win then they can follow their instincts and KILL the pipeline!)
For a government that is already accumulating national debt at a faster rate than any other peacetime government since Confederation, how hard can it be to spend your money and mine to keep the project in suspended animation until the Libs have safely won re-election next fall?
Simple. That would be reeeeal easy.
(And with rapid expansion of the oil patch killing carbon crap and trade tax waiting in the wings! The Pierre Trudeau national energy policy heavily damaged LIE-beral prospects! Kinder Morgan looks like a much bigger and messier and more damaging version that will hurt the ENTIRE country!)
