I seem to recall some years ago bismuth being discussed among shooters as an alternative to lead....Anyone that wants to keep shooting.
Whatever became of that?
Trying to discuss anything with the ijit who posted before me is useless

And that number comes from?

lol rational answer for ammunition for guns in a post industrial society.
Lead ammo sprinkled around the earth is estimated to kill 100,000 birds a year.
I know this will astound you but when you fire a gun the bullet does not just go away. It does not cease to exist.
Walk through a ditch of a somrwhat busy highway and count how many lead wheel weights you find per km.Lead ammo sprinkled around the earth is estimated to kill 100,000 birds a year.

But raptors are undergoing a population resurgence here. 40 years ago I rarely saw one, outside of the occasional small hawk. Then bald eagles came back with a vengence. In the past five years I've seen snowy owls, great horned owls, numerous hawks, and bald eagles beyond counting.
It is BS, pure and simple.

Have had turkey vultures move in yet?
And how many times exactly have you used it for that purpose?
We don’t have bears in the city , unless you live below a mountain as in N. Vancouver or Coquitlam , they get both bears and cougars . Don’t worry the conservation officer with his rifle are only hours away .Does your question also include protecting livestock and pets? I had to shoot a Bear once that was tearing at the wall trying to (possibly) get into the house. More recently a month ago my Dad shot a Timber wolf chasing the dog down the driveway. Always protecting livestock from predators, never had to raise a weapon against 2 legged predators (human, Sasquatch, etc.) though.

About the same for us with police protection, comfort to know when you, your livestock, your pets are under attack, Lol
Lots in Coquitlam. I walked into the house to grab a lemonade while waiting on friend. A minute later the friend I was waiting for was honking like mad.
I went out the door and scared the shit out a black bear as equally as it did me.
Lots of browns in NE SK. They love to eat the oats.
True. I have a cinnamon rug that scares the shit out of the cat. I shot that one just outside of Duck.
Wonder if it was anything to do not using lead shot on water fowl?Where does lead come from?
And 100,000 is a tiny number worldwide..........especially as most of that would be waterfowl in places where it is still legal to use lead over wetlands. That has been banned in Canada for decades.
The rest would be raptors scavenging offal or dead never recovered animals.

And of course you retreive all your spent ammunition, google scientist that you are.my rifle has a 1in grouping at 100 meters. Into an 8in kill zone I haven't missed in 38 years.
my shotgun has been shooting steel shot since the early 90s. I miss all this time....well, not quite.
Lead shot is not used in Canada anymore, hasn't been for years.I seem to recall some years ago bismuth being discussed among shooters as an alternative to lead....
