I think decriminalizing drug possession is probably the right way to go about things.

The user is the victim and should be helped as much as possible.

I could support that I suppose. Criminalize the selling but not the buying. But I could see exceptions to that. For example, in Pennsylvania, a person can put himself on a self-exclusion list that makes it a criminal offence punishable by 3 months in jail and a heavy fine if he is caught entering a casino. This might deter some problem gamblers. If they didn't think it would work, why else would they choose to put themselves on such a list?

The same principle should apply to the consumption of mind-altering substances other than as prescribed by a physician. In other words, a drug addict who wants to add his name to a national five-year-automatically-renewable self-exclusion list that would make it a criminal offence for him to consume any mind-altering substance other than as prescribed by a physician under threat of a heavy fine for doing so should have the opportunity to do so. It should be voluntary of course since it might not be the solution especially for hard addicts. But for soft addicts, that might just be the kick in the pants that they need? Why deprive them of that? When dealing with such harmful substances, we should not impose such freedom on those who do not want it.

Do you support decriminalizing prostitution even? You do realize how much the HIV epidemic costs the economy, no? And that's not to mention mental-health problems resulting from divorce due to infidelity even when no virus is contracted. Divorce affects the children's mental health too.

I'd say we should at the very least make buying sex a criminal offence punishable by a heavy fine. Science would seem to back that with regards to HIV etc.

Actually licensing prostitutes would probably cit down on STD of all kinds. The heavy fine solution has been tried for centuries without success.

Prostitution should be perfectly legal for any woman 19 or over, it's her "asset" and she should be able to rent or lease it. As for the pimps...............5 years hard labour with a little torture for good measure.

Legalizing it would eliminate the pimps.

WOW, the ledain commission report, after studying the drug situation around the world and how it is handled everywhere, only recommended a version of decriminalization way back in the 70's.
Modern government moves so fast!

I guess they finally have the police state built up enough now so that they don't need that rouse anymore....or now they just want the tax revenue to pay for it. Next thing you know they will be renting out hookers to go with the lotto and the booze and the drugs.

Funny though you can't order a bottle of wine over the internet from another province.

Where did I ever say I hated sex. There is a scientific argument against promiscuity. It's called HIV.
Yeah, unwanted pregnancy and permanent child support weren't enough...
