TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida is a step closer to living up to its nickname as “The Sunshine State.”
A bill to let Florida remain on daylight saving time year-round is headed to Gov. Rick Scott’s desk after the state Senate approved it 33-2 on Tuesday.
If Scott signs the “Sunshine Protection Act,” Congress would need to amend existing federal law to allow the change.
While the rest of the East would set their clocks back in the fall, Florida wouldn’t, leaving it with more sunshine in the evening during the winter. Northwest Florida is currently in the Central time zone.
Hawaii, most of Arizona, and a handful of U.S. territories — including American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands — do not observe daylight saving time.

Retards. All they have to do is get up an hour earlier.
We get to have daylight savings again this year and all it means is starting work in the dark again.

Any politician campaigning on doing away with time change will get my vote .

Changing the clocks twice a year was a good idea at the time but then so were adding machines and rotary dial telephones.

You should be thankful. Any politician stupid enough to support daylight savings time would be stupid enough to support moving our clocks back or forward a minute or two each day of the year.

I can't wait until we all adopt the Liberals new "Unified Canadian Time - UCT" strategy. All of Canada will be on the same time. That, and a metric clock. Trudeau's government is rumoured to be establishing the "metric clock".

0000 -1000 with 0000 to 0500 being "day", and 0501 to 1000 being "night".

This will correspond to the former 0700 to 1900 being "day" and 1900 to 0700 being"night".

Please don't give them any ideas.

Beats the stupid standard time which means coming home in the dark.

I am ok with changing but if we stop, I hope they do exactly what FL did and keep it DST all year round.

Why not start work an hour later and go in the light?

You could do that too. But what does the hour on the clock have to do with that? Just don't change the time all the time and we won't need to fiddle with the clocks all the time. Then let people, eat, sleep and work according to the free market.

I am ok with not changing. We will just not fall back in the fall.

Hopefully we will eventually do the same. Just pick a time and leave it there year round, I don’t care which one. It seems to be working just fine in Saskatchewan.

During winter no matter where they set the time I’d probably still go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. For a month or so anyway.

For much of the year I do both. I don't mind driving in the dark but I hate starting work in darkness.

I like it when the bush turns orange and starts to fade just at quitting time in the winter.
