Saskatchewan seeks federal funding without signing on to climate-change plan

The Saskatchewan government says it should still receive $62 million in federal money for emission-reduction programs, even though it will not sign on to Ottawa's national climate change plan that includes a carbon tax.

The statement from Saskatchewan Environment Minister Dustin Duncan comes after his federal counterpart, Catherine McKenna, told The Canadian Press on Wednesday that unless the province signs on, it will forfeit the money.

In response to the Feb. 28 participation deadline for the Pan-Canadian Framework, Duncan has sent an open letter to McKenna and federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau, stating that Saskatchewan has its own climate change initiative

He says imposing a federal carbon tax will not make his province more resilient to climate change and suggests the levy will actually have a negative impact on Indigenous people, farmers and rural residents.

Duncan also says Saskatchewan should still receive its allocation under the Low Carbon Economy Fund because the money comes from tax dollars paid to Ottawa by provincial residents.

His letter also raises the spectre of court action, stating that Saskatchewan will take legal measures to ensure provincial climate change programs are not undermined by a federal law he calls uncooperative, unprincipled and unconstitutional.

Where the f-ck do you get Socialist out of refusing to be bribed to get our money back?

We are doing just fine in reducing emissions without a carbon tax and are waiting for the rest of you deadbeats to catch up.

This money isn't collected from a Carbon tax so bribery ain't gonna happen.

Sixpackistan is tied to the SK grid. You'll get dinged with carbon taxes twice but since you are a Dipshitite you'll be happy about it.

Medicine Fart is kinda like Saskatchewan's Austrailia. It's full of Saskatchewan and some of Manitoba's drop out rejects with arrest warrants that couldn't find unskilled work operating a garden spade.

Is signing on to the plan a prerequisite to receiving the funding?

Wasn't the carbon tax supposed to be revenue neutral?? Was it not supposed to cost taxpayers a thing??

To support the development and implementation of the federal carbon pollution pricing system, the Government will provide $109 million over five years, starting in 2017–18, to the Canada Revenue Agency and Environment and Climate Change Canada to implement, administer and enforce the federal carbon pollution pricing system.

....ahh, Guess not.

Hey Climate Barbie, hey Trudowe....Sask has a message for you regarding your carbon tax...

Yes the Lib. Gov. made it a condition, they also tried to tie it in with the new Health care Fed. transfer deal.

Sask. led and leading Canada in tackling this problem in a real way their carbon capture project which cost us Billions plus is being watched by the world. It is very close to being a really good answer to the problem running at 85-90% capacity. Sask. also lead the charge on carbon injection for oil recovery it is being used across the prairies successfully in recovering more oil in old wells, last I heard the U.S. is looking hard on using this technology as well.

Trudeau basically stated that provinces needed to come up with their own carbon tax/pricing scam. If he has to drop a federal version on a province he has threatened to cut off their transfer payments. Which is super ironic right now considering the scrap that Alberta and the Fed are in with BC over a pipeline. Both of these are also examples of attacks on provincial sovereignty.
Not to mention bullying as well.

It's proprietary. The plan is to sell them world wide.

China needs a few hundred of them and our SO2 scrubbers, and natural gas cojets to burn off flue gases getting maximum bang for the buck.

My dad was part of the SO2 and cojet engineering team back in the early 80s.

Ever been to Boundary Power Station?

Sask is just as involved if not more so for supplying the pipeline feedstock.

Moe is kicking back and letting Alberta squabble with BC.

What the moonbats don't know is pure benefit to SK and now MB. They think it's a bitumen only deal. As long as they stay misinformed the better our reputation stays.

Suckers!

We pay out transfer payments. Please please cut them off.

No I haven't been to Boundary I've read a lot in the process quite impressive with all the engineering that went into it
