Quebec City dumped about 46 million litres of raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River over 12 hours in order to do scheduled maintenance work on a pumping station, the city said Friday.
A spokesperson for the city said everything went as planned.
The city said earlier this week that neglecting to do the repairs could lead to equipment breakdowns and more serious environmental problems down the line.
“Failure to carry out this maintenace work could lead to major breaks in the equipment,” the city wrote in a press release.

The riverbanks were to be inspected following the work.
Quebec City treats about 137 billion liters of wastewater annually.
Montreal’s administration was widely criticized in 2015 for dumping 4.9 billion litres of raw sewage into the river.
An original estimate of eight billion litres was downgraded after the city finished its sewer repair work three days early.

Well, don't they get their water from the river where (all) the city(s) upstream just pee straight in the lake?

Considering that they are in the habit of dumping millions of liters of raw sewage into a major fresh water river, I can't imagine that they have much of a treatment program at the best of times

But at least they filtered some of the crap out of the water that came from upstream when they drank it, and peed it back out
:)
People downstream should say Merci beaucoup offrir un sacrifice aux dieux.

It's all biodegradable! Or will be once it reaches the Atlantic Ocean!

No outrage from environmental groups?
Because that's the important thing.

That your sense of ethical superiority be validated by an incident. Especially over those environmentalists. They are they worst aren't they?

Well Trudeau is adding 1 million more immigrants to Canada in the next couple years. There is going to be a heck of a lot more of that stuff being dumped all over in the future.

Montreal and Quebec City might as well just get rid of the middle man (oops - make that middle-person) and just have everyone flush their raw sewage into the streets.. The rain will wash it into the rivers and eliminate that whole pesky sewage treatment thingy

Very preventable, intentional dumping of raw sewage in this day and age should be banned, make retention ponds like the Oil industry has to hold the raw sewage until the plant is back into operation and then treat before release.
