PET is far and away more popular than Mulroney ever was.

Mulroney got more votes in 1984 than Trudeau ever did. He and Diefenbaker were the only two PMs to ever get more than 50% of the popular vote. Most are lucky to break 40%, especially now.

Also, I’m no conservative. I’m just pointing out the stats.

The same job I worked at almost 30 years ago, has the same starting rate of pay today. Tell me something isn't wrong here. Where did all of that money go?

I think Mulroney did that in 1984. PET had just left and John *hrrmmmm* Turner was the unfortunate oaf to take the reigns. If I recall that election was lost on the night of the English debate. The night before on the French, Turner had cornered Mulroney on some point (forget the exact point). It was reported but when the English one came around next day (far more viewers), Turner tried the same move. This time Mulroney (having had a day to think of a response) outmaneuvered Turner completely nullifying Turner's point and making Turner look foolish. Mulroney then hammered Turner on various appointments he did when he first took over reigns from Trudeau. Turner claimed he had no choice and Mulroney slammed him back with "You could have said no". When he finished the word no, Turner was done. I don't think there has ever been a more decisive blow on a leader debate before or after. I was never a Mulroney fan but it was a masterful total debate victory. All that was left was the ballot counting and how big a majority it would be.

It didn't help also that Turner spent the whole debate clearing his throat. I think it was a nervous habit but it translated very poorly to television.

Northern Ontario,
There are only two ways to avoid bankruptcy..
1) Spend less!

2) Tax more!

Not in our part of the country. PET has to be the most hated politician in history. I know people that still spit after saying his name.

I posted this somewhere else, but I believe having a leadership race this close to the election was a mistake.

Money that should have been used for the election will go to a leadership contest.

Speeches and public debate by the leadership hopefuls will be used by other parties during the election campaign to slam the PCs. It has already started with the Trillium party pointing out the flaws in the PC party and leadership candidates.

The Patrick Brown resignation will see the Liberals retain more seats.

Yep. I have a buddy who drives straight truck on long distance expedite. He's getting paid the same as my uncle did when he was doing the same thing in the 80's and early 90's.

Even the jobs that have seen decent pay increases like the old auto jobs didn't keep pace with inflation and the standard of living.
My sister moved out when she was 16 in 1974. Her first job was working at a feeder plant for the auto industry. As such she was getting UAW wages. With her first paycheque she paid first and last months rent on a pretty decent apt, furnished it, loaded up on groceries and still had party money left over.
Today, an auto worker would be hard pressed to do all that with one paycheque.

Who are you, Johnny Cash? You been everywhere man?

"Let the bastards freeze in the dark". Oh yeah, Trudeau was just f*cking universally loved. I don't recall too many people or places out West that were particularly enamoured with Trudeau. Loathed and despised by many out West that's for sure.
In fact, the recently disgraced Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities is the first Liberal MP from Calgary since 1968.
Looks like this current generation of Calgarians refused to learn from history and insists on learning the hard way when it comes to the Trudeau name.
