Leave it to Cliffy to add nothing to the discussion.

Did you eat at the mission today, Cliffy? Your local mission one of the places where food and money from big corporations is donated to feed people like you. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

You never answered my question. Did you thank the local businesses and corporations for feeding you via their donation program? The Sally Anns must spend a lot of time helping you and your unfortunate friends.

So you are not going to be grateful for the help others provide, having to feed and cloth you? I bet that you are living in a low income housing project. You aren't going to thank the sponsors of the bldg and services you get? You've never paid for them.

You could at least show some gratitude for the help you get every day.

Back for more, Cliffy?

Have you found religion yet? Have the Sally Anns helped you deal with youe depressed economic situation and declining health? I have urged you to get out and mingle with others, yet you prefer to wither away in your cramped apartment.

There are some people on the board here that live close to you that would probably help if you asked them. Privately or course, so you are not embarrassed.

I know the Sally Anns would have offered help. You best be careful. If, in their opinion, you need to be assessed, they have the connections to have you admitted for observation. A gentle hint to look after yourself. Once the hammer falls, you may be permanently under care.

It cannot hurt to make that phone call. A man of your age shouldn't take any chances.

The average drivers rate is 0.40 to 0.47 cents a mile.

I pay my drivers 0.50 a mile and full benefits, as well as Medical Coverage in the USA in case of incidents

Thank God for Manulife... best dam rates

That is probably still less than $25/hr on average. More than most in town drivers make. Our union teamsters make about $36/hr plus full bennies. And they usually have a swamper except for the dump trucks. They have to flip the switch to open the tailgate all by themselves.

Cliffy, you aren't thinking of mutilating yourself, are you? I know that you have never married, but talk like that isn't smart.

Have you ever bitten yourself repeatedly, or cut yourself on purpose with a knife? Have you ever struck yourself with a hard object or banged your head against the wall? Have you ever tried to hurt yourself because you feel that you have low self esteem or don't have any friends?

If any of this sounds like like you, phone the Sally Anns. If you would like, one of us on the forum will do it for you. Just say the word.

That's the kicker, isn't it?

The foolish decision to boycott a business that claims to have difficulty affording the existing costs will result in cut hours or outright layoffs.

... Nothing like the cure being more fatal than the disease, eh?

I gotta tell you, I have zero sympathy for Timmies or Wal-Mart or any other highly profitable corporation that makes billions. I can understand how the small business owners might feel, but then if they are that strapped they can't pay someone $15.00 an hour, they obviously couldn't afford to hire additional help in the first place.

My wife worked for Wal-Mart when I was in the military, and they used make their employees stay and clean up the store off the clock. Sometimes I would be waiting out in the parking lot up to an hour or more after her shift was finished as they made the employees work for nothing. As a truck driver, I remember going to docks at Sam's Club and Wal-Mart and they expected a driver to help with the unload, but refused to sign for the hours the driver works so they get payed. The last time I was on a dock at Wal-Mart distribution centre in Mississauga for eight hours labeling and stacking freight. When I asked that they sign my bills for time they said, "We're not allowed to." I said, "I will not be coming back."

And bottom line, $15.00 an hour is peanuts. I make double that, because I have an employer who believes you get what you pay for.

The minimum wage should have been $15.00 a long time ago.

Great at fifty miles per hour they make $25.00 for that they bring a truck and fuel into the equation .

The speed limit in most states is 70 miles per hour.

Generally a trip runs about 1700 miles one way. 2 1/2 day trip. so $850

Now they have to return home.. 1700 miles plus any dead head.. generally 200 miles.

so in 5 days.. a driver makes $1,800 and has return home to Canada for his 36 hr reset.

That's a company driver. I make $2.50 a mile owning the equipment.

70mph x 8 hours x $2.50 a mile = $1400

How much of that is left over for the truck driver after expenses and any other reasonable deductions like return on investment for owning the truck that provides the service?

Just curious. Not trying to make any point here.

You can legally drive 11 hours a day in the USA and 13 hours a day in Canada..

Ya lazy f*ck quitting after 8 hours, what do you think this is a Union.

..............................

On average a truck can run 620 miles a day with eLogs so $1550 per day on average x 5 days = $7750

Fuel runs $2.50 per gallon so fuel costs 98.5716613 m-3

Cost of driver 0.50

So I get a $1 per mile.. for my investment or $620 a day.

Now I have Insurance, Licenses, Workers comp, Blue Cross and any maintenance., but somehow still take home $6,000 per truck home each month.

The truck I drive, I take home $12,000 per month.

So with 3 trucks $24,000 per month take home pay. (Then Revenue Canada wants it's cut)
