Panic has gripped the Indian capital, Delhi, as residents woke up to a blanket of thick grey smog on Tuesday.

Visibility is poor as pollution levels reached 30 times the World Health Organization's recommended limit in some areas.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) declared "a state of medical emergency" and urged the government to "make every possible effort to curb this menace".

People have been posting dramatic pictures on social media showing the extent of the problem.

The levels of tiny particulate matter (known as PM 2.5) that enter deep into the lungs reached as high as 700 micrograms per cubic metre in some areas on Tuesday, data from the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research website shows.

Now this where real responsible environmentalism should look for solutions. London also had killer smogs up to the 1950s until sensible controls were put on emissions. This makes more sense than the claptrap of AGW which has no credibility and no solutions beyond the elimination of the human presence on the earth. And that essentially is the ultimate objective of the nutcases who promote it.

Well if Canada would step up and keep to their commitments, Delhi would not be blanketed in smog.

Wind tends to throw a wrench into that. Hong Kong has strict emissions standards, but of what good is that when a mainland breeze blows a bunch of mainland smog into Hong Kong. what happens in the country around a city affects the city too. It's like wind blowing US smog into Canada or vice versa.

How high a wall should we build?

To be fair, we should be looking at pollution per person. On that basis, Delhi probably pollutes far less than much of the world.

Tell that to Mother Earth and the Climate. Explain that to the plankton and coral reefs... explain that to the swimming polar bears... Fiji people... tell that to the bees... the rain forests in Brazil... the polar ice caps.

Yuh know what we need? A carbon tax tax.

Exactly... a much bigger one at that. Canada has been around for what... 150 years? That's a long time and India, well India is still a developing country. India has not been around nearly as long as Canada has. Canada needs to pay it's share.

Then there is no issue. Let them choke in the less per-capita smog and stop complaining. I am sure smog made in Winnipeg won't find it's way to Delhi.
