I agree, but here's a comparison to consider.

If somebody says, "We are putting all Muslims on notice," because one Muslim took a truck and mowed a bunch innocent people down, people would say, "You can't do that, your generalizing." and they'd be right. The same applies here. Statistically people driving cars and light vehicles kill more of each other than transport trucks do. I'd bet it's fractional. I don't even have to look it up, I'm that confident. I don't know how many close calls I've had on the road because of somebody else's inattention, but I do know a lot of professional drivers out there who navigate poor drivers every day.

It's simply easier to make generalizations to appease the torch and pitchfork folks.

Preach, brother!

We don't have crimes, or accidents, anymore. We have crises that demand sweeping government action.

Maybe in the states, Tec.............here in Canada we have to have an inquiry, then possibly a Royal Commission........then, if we are really lucky we just might see government action.

I'm not saying we GET the government action, just that every damn crime or accident instantly provokes a bunch of screaming meemies on the internet to declare that this is the worst. . . POSSIBLE. . .THING and shriek for yet another law (and a new government agency to enforce it).

Ahh. but not true. Ontario has some of the toughest DOT requirements in the country. But that doesn't stop tragedies like this. They're the province that turned all it's trucks down to 105 kph while looking the other way when drivers exceed 115.

Or call for drivers to be shot. LOL.

Why not just put all motorists on notice? I would guess on average the professionalism of truck drivers far exceeds that of the motoring public as a whole. :)

All drivers are and should be on notice but there is a difference in the devastation caused by a between a 3-4 thousand pound car rear ending a line of traffic and a 100,000 pound truck.

And truckers are supposed to be the Professional Drivers that lead the way in safety so that should be reflected in how they operate their vehicles. There are bad drivers of all vehicles including motorcycles but as we see a bad truck driver is deadly.

I often hear of 'safety truck blitzes' and usually over 50% of them are taken off the road. I'm not saying that if they did the same checks on 4 wheelers that a lot of them would fail, but they only do those check on long weekends along the 400.

I will tell you, I hate being in front of a dump/gravel truck. If I am going 85 on a 90 they tailgate. If I speed up to 95 in a 80 they are still tailgating to the point where I can only see the grill. I now pull over if I see one coming and let them go ahead of me........

You make good points, there Tay. One more little hint..............be very careful FOLLOWING a gravel truck. Sometimes when they are hauling out of the pit a rock can become lodged between the duals & then when they reach highway speeds it can fly out. My father in law years ago, got one right through his windshield. Very lucky he wasn't hurt or worse! Yep, truckers have very little excuse for poor driving!

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — A 59-year-old man is dead after a collision involving three commercial trucks on Ontario’s busiest highway.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the crash took place Friday morning on a stretch of Highway 401 near Cambridge, Ont.

He said the collision involved two transport trucks and a dump truck.

It appeared one transport truck ran into the back of another, pushing it into the dump truck, which had slowed because of traffic in the area, Schmidt said.

Two transport trucks and a dump truck involved in a fatal crash on Hwy. 401 at Cedar Creek on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017.

The driver of one of the transport trucks, who was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated, was pronounced dead at the scene, Schmidt said. He was later identified as Abdual Waheed of Ajax, Ont.

“Absolutely devastating seeing this kind of trauma,” Schmidt said at the scene of Friday’s collision. “Apparently traffic was moving slowly prior to the collision taking place.”

Now you`re thinking.

If you do your job so badly that you kill people and slam into other vehicles, you don`t deserve your job, and might as well be shot.

#shoot truckers.

I drove to ONterrible this week with a load.. 1st time and last time.

As I drive down the 401 I see dam near every 3rd car texting and driving, and not just cars, truck drivers weaving back and forth and as I pass them they’re texting.

Truck driver should have Dash cams that film the road and the driver and eLogs.

...and honest to God yesterday a fella had his laptop wedged between his stomach and the steering wheel on the 401 as he typed away.

In the USA, drivers are charged $1,500 and the company $15,000 if it can be proved they new the driver texts while driving. Canada needs stronger laws like these..

Both arms and feet cut off anyway, so driving is out of the question! :)

It's a huge issue, but truckers are the problem.

You should sign up to be the spokesman.
