What makes you think Oil has run it's course? In my opinion Oil will be here as long as there is no other cheap sources of reliable energy.

P.S. Electric isn't the cheap source of reliable energy to replace Oil.

Americans consume petroleum products at a rate of three-and-a-half gallons of oil and more than
250 cubic feet of natural gas per day each! But, as shown here petroleum is not just used for fuel.

A partial list of products made from Petroleum (144 of 6000 items)

One 42-gallon barrel of oil creates 19.4 gallons of gasoline. The rest (over half) is used to make things like:

The internal combustion engine is a 19th century invention. It is ridiculous that we are still using it in the 21st century but we are are saddled with it.
Avro...

So was the... electric motor.

Heard about that today as well.

That number is really fukking high.

And these meatheads are worried about terrorism.

Aren't you glad we have high tech sewage treatment and aren't dumping it in rivers and the oceans.

If France goes gas free it can be determined how much the other industries will suffer as the gas consumed in a year is probably available somewhere.
The list of products made from hemp is quite a bit longer and the industry behind it is almost like farming and textile like businesses that have a renewable crop at the volume the market sets. I pity the ones forced to go that route.

I see the trolls, sorry, loco collective, all have their soothers firmly implanted, lol. Good thing I'm not the kind of person that would take advantage of it.

The moment that you decide to face the facts will be the moment that you develop a reasonable understanding as to why societies across the globe will be unable to free themselves from oil and all of the derivatives for quite some time.

That said, in the event you believe differently, consider what actions you would have to execute on in terms of living your life, at the current standard, without consuming anything that is derived from hydrocarbons.

Absolutely not!!!.. Why, we learned that lesson millions of years ago with the devestation caused by those many episodes of continental galciation.... And then the retreat of the glaciers... And then more continental glaciation.... And then, well, glacial retreat and... Well, you get the rest.

And as we all know, those episodes from all of those millions of years ago were proven to be the result of vehicular use and too many people BBQing with propane or gas.

It's a fact

Since we have got to the point where we are pretty efficient at oil and use rather than getting rich is entering the picture the true value of recycling will reduce the demand for production staying at high levels. If an economy is to thrive a raw material has to be found to replace what oil cutbacks, so far I haven't seen any better alternative than hemp. If you aren't leading the pack you are left in the dust. Since we can grow a hell of a lot of hemp we are not cutting our own throats by being one of the first countries to cut back even though we are an oil producing nation.

If the whole nation had to go to geo thermal for it's heating and cooling needs that runs pumps that need minimal amounts of power and in an emergency natural convection will keep a small space warm in the coldest weather. Drill lots of small holes would save how much in NG in the winter and power for AC in the summer.

Is AGW a hoax?
Yes. To get global warming due to an increase of CO2 in the air you need an event that is as big and as long lasting as the Siberian Traps. After going on for about 100,000-1,000,000 years you get global warming. Watch a vid on it.

Local fluctuations are on the scale of about 400 years. The 40,000,000 miles of oceanic rifts spread about as fast as a fingernail grows. It does that for 200 of those years and the time left is when they spread at a faster rate or a slower rate. The heat released at the faster times has to travel through the water and the currents involved dilute it and move it some distance before that happens. The west side of the Atlantic has the heat pushed towards north-east Europe and the heat from the east side is carried to the Americas as hurricanes. The Pacific has La Nina type of events based on the same pattern.
The small amount of change in the water temp also affects the direction the winds blow. London just got dusted with sand from northern Africa, a 90deg shift in wind patterns.

That's nice.... Doesn't really help you much today, doesn't it?
You seem cold bro? Turn up the thermostat, that is why it was put there.

It might help those who are thinking of homesteading where running conventional utilities would be horribly expensive. When doing a reno in the suburbs why would you not want to spend the same amount for a place that has in floor heating rather than a noisy forced-air furnace? Same as some way to keep a bit of power. Inverters are not quite a dime a dozen but visit a sound shop that has amps for vehicles and a few of those would power everything in a house an a handful of 12v marine batteries. A lawn mower would keep them charged. Even in the city a homeowner should have the option of storing a big bottle of NG in case the normal delivery service becomes unavailable. On an acreage you could have a big bottle that is used as the primary fuel for the whole place. Propane engines for generators, welding sized generators, etc.

You can burn any one of them

But for the most part we do not. This is what people are talking about.

I'd be interested to see the source of this graph.

The references to Commercial and Residential made in gallons makes me wonder if this is fuel oil (I assume it is).

From the perspective of heating and/or power generation, natural gas would be a huge addition to the numbers

Have heard that the average lawn mower is a worse emitter than the average car which I believe to be true. I don't think lawn mowers have any emission controls. Maybe the ride-ons have some.

That is true. Since a rechargeable version should have been available a decade ago why would they keep producing expensive antiquated products, . . . . never mind, I think I see the answer already.

I kind of scoff at people buying Crappy Tire battery lawn mowers and throwing them into the land fill every 3 or 4 years.

We not only need a change in technical direction towards electric but we need a return to better manufacturing.

Budgets don't have to ever be balanced, just make sure you pay all the interest due on time and the country will live to see another payment come due. They will always up you limit too, they probably don't mention that more than once and then in a muffled voice.
