President Donald Trump on Friday said he would not rule out a "military option" in Venezuela as the ruling regime there consolidates power.

"We have many options for Venezuela, including a possible military option, if necessary," Trump told reporters at his New Jersey golf club on Friday.

The president did not answer a question about whether American troops would lead a potential operation.

"We don't talk about it. But a military operation, a military option, is certainly something we could pursue," he responded.

Reuters reported later Friday that the Pentagon said the White House hadn't given it any orders on Venezuela.

In response, Venezuela's defense minister said that Trump's threat of military intervention was "a crazy act."

Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro had requested a phone call with Trump, the White House said. Trump, according to an administration statement, will gladly speak with the nation's leader when democracy has been restored in the country.

The Trump administration has issued sanctions against Maduro, whom it calls a "dictator," and more than two dozen other former and current officials. The U.S. accuses Maduro's regime of violating human rights and subverting democratic processes.

Nothing like returning to traditional US policies of interfering in Latin American politics.

I have to assume 'we' is referring to his handlers rather than he now has a split-personality.
the split personality is not out of the question ....

*****

It is rather curious that his daughter Ivanka plays such a big role in his regime........while his wife is hardly seen or heard.

He is such a WRONG person for this job......it is hard to imagine why and how he was voted in. Are his supporters just as vile in general??

Thanks for posting that. It certainly provides a snapshot of the man himself.

You do of course realise that the same people that voted Obama twice voted for Trump . Were these Obama supporters vile then or did they change into vile people only once they jumped they democrat ship ?

He wasn't voted in. The Electoral College elected him in what was a clear failure of the US system.
So you don't like the American system of government , to bad . But remember our PM won a clear majority with about 37 % support .

The system worked as intended. NYC and LA should not decide who is President.

Trudeau became PM with 39%... a clear failure of the Canadian system eh?

It was a clear example of exactly how the US system works. It wasn't a failure, it's exactly how it was designed.
Precisely. Most people don't understand that the President is not elected by the people, the President is elected by the states. The Constitution states "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in Congress. . ." U.S. Const., Art. II, sec. 1, cl. 2.

There is NO REQUIREMENT that a state even hold a Presidential election. The state legislature may simply pick the electors, and send them off to Washington.
