Canadian elite special forces sniper makes record-breaking kill shot in Iraq

A sniper with Canada's elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,450 metres.

Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target.

"The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces," said a military source, who stressed the operation fell within the strictures of the government's advise and assist mission. "Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn't have a clue what was happening."

The kill was independently verified by video camera and other data, The Globe and Mail has learned.

"Hard data on this. It isn't an opinion. It isn't an approximation. There is a second location with eyes on with all the right equipment to capture exactly what the shot was," another military source said.

A military insider told The Globe: "This is an incredible feat. It is a world record that might never be equalled."

Damn, almost 3.5km. That's a helluva kill shot.
I've have a theory as to why Canadian soldiers are as skilled as they are. Unlike most other modern militaries, our men and women don't have a lot of the high tech toys to play with. For example, we have Abrams MBTs but without the gun stabilization system the Americans have on theirs because they don't want to export the technology and who can blame them. It gives them a huge advantage.
I believe as a result of this lack of toys, the Canadian soldier has had to rely more on the basics as well as developing innovative tactics then their counterparts.

Why are we killing people in another country that doesn't have any WMDs and didn't do 911?

Maybe when those dudes cut off a few of your friends heads, you'll dig your head out of your ass and climb out of that British Columbia bubble.

No, I can back it up. But what would be the point?

I'm guessing from your point of view that all the terrorist attacks, the beheadings, the bombings during Ramadan, is all made up. It would be like arguing with a bowl of marshmallows that has a learning disorder.

I never supported going into Iraq, didn't buy the WMD justification, but doing nothing about ISIS is just as dumb.

Since the @ssclown was a member of IS and was actively engaged in combat against allied forces, you're damn right I don't give two sh*ts about that "poor bastard."

I don't even give a single sh*t, let along half a sh*t.

These are people who rape little girls and force them into marriage.
These are people who commit genocide against those who don't follow their twisted religious beliefs.
These are people who hack heads off of people who are alive, conscious and tied up helpless who can't defend themselves.
These are people who burn others alive and glorify their deaths to recruit more d*ckchunks like themselves.
These are people who get children to blow themselves up in markets and crowded areas.
These are people who actively encourage idiots in our own societies to use trucks to mow down men, women and children.

These wankknobs glorify far worse than war and if we can have a solder drive a bullet into their skulls from over 3km away, I say give that guy a frigging medal and send him back out to drop more of these fart knockers.

Invader of a foreign country?

Canada didn't invade Iraq and Iraq has a government again. If they didn't want Canada's help, Canada wouldn't be there.

Get a clue.

You seriously bought into the ISIS hype? Do you buy into the Iranian hype?

What about all the other clans over there. Who recalls before ISIS when the Taliban and Al Queda were the trendy bogeyman.

I too am surprised that a Canadian is in Iraq and wonder why they aren't in Saudi Arabia it it's all about 9/11 .....?

What a mess! US-backed and armed groups are fighting other US-backed rebel groups. How can this be?

Few can keep track of the 1,000 groups of jihadis that keep changing their names and shifting alliances. Throw in Turkomans, Yzidis, Armenians, Nestorians, Druze, Circassians, Alawis, Assyrians and Palestinians. Oh yes, and the Alevis.

Meanwhile, ISIS was inflicting mayhem on Syria and Iraq. But who really is ISIS? A few thousand twenty-something hooligans with little knowledge of Islam but a burning desire to dynamite the existing order and a sharp media sense. The leadership of these turbaned anarchists appears to have formed in US prison camps in Afghanistan.

The US, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey armed and financed ISIS as a weapon to unleash on Syria, which was an ally of Iran that refused to take orders from the Western powers. The west bears heavy responsibility for the deaths of 450,000 Syrians, at least half the nation of 23 million becoming refugees, and destruction of this once lovely country.

At some point, ISIS shook off its western tutors and literally ran amok. But the US has not yet made a concerted attempt to crush ISIS because of its continuing usefulness in Syria and in the US, where ISIS has become the favorite whipping boy of politicians.

We already held the longest kill shot.. now it's been bested.

Nice shot...

So, a man who strikes from hiding against another man who never even knows he's there, and kills him, is a hero?

Yes.

Just remember the other guy is shooting and killing US, Canadian forces...

Any means necessary killing the enemy when you're in ground to ground fighting.

Curvature of the earth?? My astro-lobes are tingling. There are no over the horizon sniper shots and there never will be. As soon as the ships crow's nest comes into sight to the sniper in the lighthouse can take the shot(s)
