Pretty much. But there is a real case here.

Anybody, including the Russian government, is perfectly free to try to "influence" an election. That's Free Speech 101. Just like the Obama administration tried to influence the Brexit vote. The only consequences are political. And in the U.S., anybody is free to spend as much money as she likes exercising her freedom of speech.

It is illegal for political campaigns to accept donations, in cash or kind, from non-U.S. citizens. Obviously, the easy way around this is for the campaign to coordinate with the independent individual or organization, so that's illegal too.

So, if Sessions was discussing or coordinating campaign actions with the Russian ambassador, he's in deep, hot water. If he was speaking to the Russian ambassador about other issues (like those that would typically involve a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee), there is no issue. And we've already seen there's little likelihood that a "smoking gun" in the form of a recording or notes of the meetings will ever be found.

With that done, all that's left is whether or not Sessions lied to the Judiciary Committee. Because his statement was in the context of meetings with the Russian ambassador about the campaign, and not a direct denial of ever meeting with the ambassador, it's unlikely Sessions will get in trouble for that.

So this is your classic demi-tasse hurricane. Recusing himself from any investigation of Russian "influence" was a smart idea, under the concept of "avoiding the appearance of impropriety." But if the Dumbocrats think they've found the magic bullet that will slay the beast, they're dreaming.

But it's all probably just dwama for dwama's sake. The Dumbocrats have seen what a huge impact the Trumpublicans had shrieking about issues that were patently false. Maybe they're just trying the same thing, in hope of a similar outcome. I doubt it. The Dumbocrats ain't that good.

No, some things are legal. But keep practicing. The Dumbocrats and their allies in foreign countries could someday challenge the Trumpublicans in swaying the chumps by screaming.

But it is good of you to effectively admit that you have no principle, no theory, no motivation beyond a childish "my team wins."
