Over 100 years to develop a nation.

Less than a week to completely ruin it.

Mexican president CANCELS meeting with Donald Trump in breakdown of relations between two countries

The Mexican president has cancelled his meeting with Donald Trump in an extraordinary breakdown of relations between the two countries.

Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted: "This morning we informed the White House that I will not attend the scheduled meeting next Tuesday with @POTUS."

He added: "Mexico reiterates its willingness to work with the United States to reach agreements on behalf of both nations."

It comes after the US president claimed construction of a wall on the border with Mexico would start "within months" and that the neighbouring country would pay "100%" of the costs - which are estimated at a whopping $25 billion.

But Mexico has refused to pay a single cent – and Trump had earlier threatened to "cancel the upcoming meeting" in one of his characteristic Twitter rants.

Yesterday Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto addressed the nation to slam Trump's plans for the border wall.

He said: "I regret and disapprove of the decision by the United States to continue with the construction of the wall, which has for years, far from uniting us, divided us.

"Mexico does not believe in walls. I have said time and time again, Mexico will not pay for any wall."

Despite Mexico's rejection of Trump's plans, the billionaire had said US taxpayers will fund the up-front costs.

"We'll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico," Trump told ABC.

"I'm just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form.

"What I'm doing is good for the United States. It's also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico."

Good for the Mexican President. Trump respects people who stand up to him.. he'll bully those who don't. That's a bad sign for us and our weakling twit of a PM.

Why not save the taxpayer some money and communicate through email, Facebook Messenger, or videoconferencing? You see how efficient and cost-effective private-sector communication is compared to government communication where they spend massive sums of money on conferences, teams of translators, hotels, flights, etc. etc. etc.? The government should learn from how the private sector communicates.

That goes on right now. Underlings do all the heavy lifting.

Trade and government meetings are photo ops. Most of the work has already been done in the back room by the time you see vids of "negotiations" on the evening news.

You'd be surprise at how much Canadian civil servants travel. How I know, I'll keep to myself, but I'll just tell you that civil servants travel far, far more than they need to when email, Facebook Messenger, or even videoconferencing would do just fine.

I worked for the federal government for many years and can tell you the same thing. Much of the traveling is unnecessary, but that was the way it used to be done. There's a lag when governments have to catch up with the times.

All e-communications of a serious nature are done on secure servers. The trips to the US and elsewhere are done on an expense account and for personal pleasure, but disguised as work.

But the government always does everything better, doesn't it? :)

Peso smacked after Mexican president cancels meeting in latest international Twitter spat
President Donald Trump Trump claims US-Mexico meeting was mutually cancelled

Twitter diplomacy just ripped the Mexican peso, again.

At its low, the currency was down more than a percent against the U.S. dollar after Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto canceled a meeting with President Donald Trump, in a dispute over Trump's border wall.

"breakdown" implies there was ever a connect to begin with. Mexico was never going to pay for the wall.

Or would you have a European style un floating currency and a Greece and Portugal and an Italy right here on our side of the pond?
all harmonized into the poor house

The illegals( workers and dope dealers) have sent mucho USD back to mexico, and those dollars need to wind up somewhere they can be safe and or spent - the US
Without the US markets and 35 Million illegals sending that money home Mexico
mexico is going to blink
