wrong, again.... you really are starting off 2017 in a bad way.

A peace officer may immediately suspend a person’s driver’s licence for 24 hours if the officer reasonably suspects that the driver: • Has a medical or physical condition ( WHICH INCLUDES FATIGUE OR LACK OF SLEEP) that affects the driver’s physical or mental ability, or, •

Are you tired or impaired behind the wheel alberta has the immediate …

now, you were babbling about things not being even or consistent?

maybe you should sit this one, and probably many more, out untill you can bring your education up to snuff to be able to converse with the big boys.

Hehehehe... the government's doing a real bang-up job, cracking down on all the shift workers are they

The law is there. Maybe you should be contacting your MLA and complaining.

Yep, you have a lot of experience in that department- no even enough brains to keep your mouth shut!

"no even enough brains", eh,

I have. The goal should be road safety. He agrees. He also agrees that current practice has more to do with giving people a security blanket than making roads safer.

The government is going after somebody and making them pay. That's good enough for most people, despite the fact that it doesn't work and costs a fortune.

In 18 years on the fire department, I've attended 40ish MVCs during seeding and harvest. Farm workers work round the clock. There's never been one impaired handed out despite the fact everybody knew the driver hadn't slept. Every year, it's the same. Nobody says a word and the cops hang around the bars trying to pinch people. Odd, considering there's been two serious alcohol related crashes in those 18 years

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooook........ and your point is? Sounds to me like the cops aren't doing their job in your jurisdiction. Why haven't you laid a citizens complaint with the local crown? You have that ability, or are you also part of the "problem" that you are whining about? How often have you gone out to a fire "impaired"?

and your point is?

My point is that the whole impaired driving issue has nothing to do with road safety. And don't embarrass yourself Gerry, this isn't just a local issue. How many people get pulled over at check stops and are asked when was last time they slept. There is clear and irrefutable proof that sleep deprivation is a much bigger problem then people with BAC below 0.08. Like most of these nonexistent problems, it just becomes an industry

Well, it is soon to be 2017. I don't touch a drop unless my wife is driving.

I answered the first. The second and third are kinda the same and the short answer is that it's a systemic problem and that would be the wrong approach. The fourth answer is no.

why would it be the wrong aproach? You have stated that you have seen it. Does not that make you complicit?

In all your 18 years with the FD you have NEVER attended a fire or been called out for anything else where you have been tired?

why would it be the wrong aproach?

Because it's akin to trying to fix a symptom. Traffic safety is about satisfying the insurance companies, generating revenue and placating special interests. We could just as easily be discussing radar traps and many of the issues would be the same. Photo radar is another prime example. Where's the statistical evidence that our roads are safer?

You have stated that you have seen it. Does not that make you complicit?

I don't think so. Being complicit would be doing nothing.

All the time. Do you equate being tired with being impaired.

NEver. He is a green hatter. They don't get to actually work a fire because they are mentally/physically challenged.

Actually, what I've said is that sleep deprivation can cause impairment equivalent to that of alcohol. Do you agree.

and yet you do nothing about it.

Says who? If I'm too tired, I don't drive the truck (which I seldom do anyway) or don't take command in some instances. As a rural and volunteer Dept we have to manage this. Most of our members are farmers so during seeding and harvest they lack sleep as well. They've been to enough wrecks that they're better than most.

So, you can justify operating a vehicle and/or heavy equipment while impaired.
