Citizenship does make you Canadian, but I've never met a Chinese who identified as Canadian first, they say I'm Chinese Canadian, or an Pakistanian who does not say I'm a Pakistani Canadian, etc... and this is absolutely normal and fair. Me, I'm simply Canadian, period. What I'm saying is that for example; someone from a Greek ethnic background; born in 'Canada or not', decides they are not happy with being a minority, they can move to Greece. Chinese wanting to become part of the majority, can move to China. They have an option, but for us, Canada is the place where the majority of Canadian live. Maybe we could ask for a piece of land next to Dharamshala in Kangra?

You're an English-Canadian in denial.

Unfortunately, some use 'Canadian' as a code word for English-Canadian.

And when we talk about 'Canadian values,' it often serves as a code word for 'Englush-Canadian values.'

Freedom is only an English speaker's value?

No, but it's not even only a Canadian value. And strangely enough, this 'values test' aims at curtailing freedom. Is it not about forcing people to believe and do certain things?

So when somebody leaves China for Canadian freedom they made a mistake?

Not necessarily. More freedom in Canada than China, and more freedom in Canada today than in the future if we introduce a 'values test ' That would take us back to 1984.

Why would we want to identify as such, versus just Canadian? When in Italy, do people refer to themselves as 'Italian Italian'? or British citizens as 'English British', thats sort of absurd isn't it? I am Canadian, I don't add anything in front of it, ever.

But we still understand what's implied, and it's not Ojibway-Canadian for example.

China in 84 would have really sucked balls. Good thing Chinese people want freedom or they'dstill be a closed society.

No, because Ojibway are the first Canadian. They are Canadians in every sense of our land. They do not identify with any other country than Canada and the Ojibway living in the US, do not identify with any other country than the US.

As far as values, my values are Canadian because I'm Canadian, no other influence can change my values, they are 100% Canadian. Maybe I'm missing something, but do other cultures have difficulties interpreting their values? I've never experienced this in my travels however. Actually, some cultures are very very aware of their cultural values, I would say I've met some really staunch one, such as the Greeks, Irish, French, Brits, Polish for a few.... not more or less than my Canadians values, but I recall a few pints which led to great conversations about values.
