What? Giving the poor more choice?

To myind, most taxes should be 'avoidable taxes' like taxes on tobacco, alcohol, gambling, non-rebewable resourses, etc. We should maximally reduce taxes on income and business, and other value-added taxes like the GST too.

That's why I favour a carbon tax. I appreciate the choice it gives the poor.

They can already choose not to drink, smoke, do dope, gamble or even stop donating to charity but f-cking with their freedom of mobility is not a good thing at all.

You don't vote just to appease rioters, geeee get a grip eh!!
Best way to calm down rioters is with AR-15s. I mean, sure, the round is light, but it ain't like the rioters are armored. Give 'em a burst on auto, and they'll be in the churches weeping instead of on the streets destroying property.

Great! Kent State is a footnote in history. Nobody cares. And it sure as heck calmed down the protests.

Besides, we're post-9/11. We can always scream "TERRA-RISTS!" when somebody suggests that maybe the authorities shouldn't be gunning down unarmed white kids.

Carbon price plan

During today's news conference, Trudeau was also asked if Canada's carbon-tax plan would put our country at an economic disadvantage, given that Trump is opposed to such a scheme. But the prime minister insisted there is "tremendous economic disadvantage" to not taking strong action in the fight against climate change.

"We know that putting a price on carbon pollution is a way to improve our response to economic challenges, to create good jobs going forward, and to show leadership the whole world is looking for along with the solutions that go with it," he said.

Trudeau also expressed little concern that Trump is keen to renegotiate, if not rip up, the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"As our ambassador said, if the Americans want to talk about NAFTA, I'm more than happy to talk about it," he said, referring to recent comments by Canada's ambassador to the U.S., David MacNaughton.

That is carbon tax scam not plan. Unless the plan is to scam.

I don't deny that a carbon tax can hurt the poor, but that can be offset by eliminating income taxes on the poor, the GST/HST, and business taxes.

Right now, whether a poor person chooses to walk, cycle, bus, or drive to work, he's still stuck paying all those other taxes. If you shift those taxes to a carbon tax, he has the choice to walk or cycle to work or move closer to work. A carbon tax gives him more choice. He has no choice but to earn an income, so an income tax has him by the nuts.

He has no choice but to buy clothes, toiletteries, etc., so the GST has him by the balls.

A business has no choice but to cut wages to compensate for business taxes.

But, a person does have some controlbover buying a sweater and turning down the heat in winter, or commuting to work on foot IR by bicycle.

Do you oppose giving the poor more choice?

The poor already don't pay taxes. It is the middle class, and especially the lower end that get royally screwed.
Business will just go broke and close the doors when they can't make money. Can't cut wages and can't raise prices.

Carbon taxes do not give the poor choices. Everything they buy will have the carbon tax scam included in the price. Unless you expect them to do all their shopping at the food bank. Except that the people that support the food bank will be short of funds to donate.

To give us rioting?

No thanks.

It is the butthurt leftards that are rioting. Seems they don't believe in democracy or laws unless it is one they benefit from.

Get rid of the whining middle class, shove them down to the poverty class. Maybe they will eventually smarten up.

Get off your a$$ and get a job then you won't be poor.

If you aim really low they won't even be killed. They might limp forever but we can still send them back to work after they heal

Under the new Canadian Anti-Terrorism legislation they fit into the definition. No need to worry.

That is happening, anyway. In fact, with mechanization of, not only production but of clerical tasks, engineering knowledge, even some Medicine and Law on top of Globalization, you will get your wish and the Middle Class will all be gone in just a few generations. I doubt very much if Democracy will survive that. That should make you happy as well.

I believe Mexico was the biggest winner of NAFTA, just by offering cheaper labour and what they gained in the auto industry alone speaks for itself. In my opinion, the biggest lost of US jobs however was not to Mexico, but China: 1 to 1 for Mexico, 1 to 5 for China. Investors and big wigs were the biggest winners of NAFTA, but I don't believe the working man did so well. When someone is willing to do your job for $5 bucks an hour and work 6-days a week chances are your Board of Director will move there eventually, similarly if a large Corp. is planning on opening a plant, they are not going to open it where people expect $20/ hour. They don't care that your cost of living necessitates a $20 wages to have food and afford a roof. That's where Governments come in, they should shift more of their focus on protecting the working people of Canada and the US or lower living cost perhaps. Maybe Trump can do something, it was a promise that I'm interested in seeing if it's fulfilled!!
