You do realise don't you that a tax affects consumption habits?

For example, a tax on tobacco, alcohol, and lottery tickets affects spending habits differently than a simple across-the-board income tax or value-added tax does, even if the revenue is the same. You understand that, right?

If for example we raise the carbon tax and lower other taxes, while our gas industry becomes less competitive, our other industries become more competitive. You understand the concept, right?
If you want to kill the industry that supports this country maybe you should stop collecting govt money and using govt services. I also suggest, as I do to all anti-oil&gas morons, give up your car (or bus pass as it probably is) and heat your cave with wood and stop using or owning anything made with plastic or petroleum by products. Limit yourself to wood and stone or metal you smelt yourself. Be a real protester, not a hypocrite.

Placing faith in liberals to honour what they profess leaves us all wet, trudoughs' self balancing budget and kates green jobs to me are suspect, perhaps I'm a tad cynical but I can't in all honesty see either materializing. I recall martin raiding health care loonies to post a phony surplus and dalton dumping 'dedicated' health care loonies into gen revenues, a carbon tax is just one more revenue stream for libs.

Trudeau is an idiot. Sooner or later Canadians are going to figure that out.
A carbon tax weighs heavily on the working poor. As will his new CPP taxes. On top of that, competition in the USA is going to eliminate jobs in Canada, as our price for power rises, and that price gets passed down the line. Trudeau is screwing the lower middle class, and he doesn't give a rat's *** for you.
We produce 1.6% of the world's GHG production. If we shut down everything, and froze to death in the dark, we would have no significant effect on global warming.
And we can't do that. At best we could cut out 1.6% by 25%, thus lowing world GHG production by 0.4%.
Get serious Justin.

Now, I'm not calling your system stupid, and I'll freely admit ours is totally outdated, but 62% indicates a problem to me.

But I loudly declare I'M NOT CANADIAN, and it's none of my business.

Not only that, but you obviously don't have a clue.

I don't deny that a carbon tax can hurt the poor, but that can be offset by eliminating income taxes on the poor, the GST/HST, and business taxes.

Right now, whether a poor person chooses to walk, cycle, bus, or drive to work, he's still stuck paying all those other taxes. If you shift those taxes to a carbon tax, he has the choice to walk or cycle to work or move closer to work. A carbon tax gives him more choice. He has no choice but to earn an income, so an income tax has him by the nuts.

He has no choice but to buy clothes, toiletteries, etc., so the GST has him by the balls.

A business has no choice but to cut wages to compensate for business taxes.

But, a person does have some controlbover buying a sweater and turning down the heat in winter, or commuting to work on foot IR by bicycle.

Do you oppose giving the poor more choice?

That ain't gonna happen.

What? Giving the poor more choice?

To myind, most taxes should be 'avoidable taxes' like taxes on tobacco, alcohol, gambling, non-rebewable resourses, etc. We should maximally reduce taxes on income and business, and other value-added taxes like the GST too.

That's why I favour a carbon tax. I appreciate the choice it gives the poor.
