Good man.

Protectionism of Europe, U.S. won’t spill into Canada, Trudeau says

HANGZHOU, CHINA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says there’s little risk that protectionist forces seen in the United States and Europe will spill over into Canada.

Trudeau made the remarks Monday at the end of the Group of 20 summit in China, where he urged fellow world leaders to fight back against growing anti-trade sentiments.

Speaking to reporters in Hangzhou after the G20, Trudeau said he believes Canadians in every demographic group broadly support positive engagement with the world.

“I’d be very careful and hesitant to apply situations that might be described in other countries to Canadians because we’ve seen Canadians are — and all demographic groups combined — generally open and positive and optimistic about the future,” Trudeau said.

On Sunday, International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland blamed growing anti-trade movements for complicating Canada’s free trade talks with Europe and negotiations on softwood lumber with the U.S.

During his second G20 since taking office, Trudeau said he had discussions on many different subjects with just about every leader, including U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Prime Minister’s Office says he had five sit-down meetings on the sidelines of the summit with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the European Union, the OECD and Singapore.

His only formal bilateral meeting was with Chad’s President Idriss Deby Itno, who is also chair of the African Union.

One main difference is that protectionism in Canada is predominantly a trait of left-nationalism and right nationalism. Most of the centre in Canada is mostly internationalist at least when it comes to trade. Even Harper was pro-free-trade, surprising considering his hyper-nationalist streak.

Left is authoritarian and therefore protectionism is inherently leftist.

This is why Trump supporters like Wally get so irate when they are correctly identified as lefties on this issue.

Protectionism is inherently nationalist along with anti-immigrant sentiment, etc. Nothing to do with the left-right divide.

In some countries, the left is more nationalist. In other countries, the right. In some countries, both, and in others neither. It's a nationalist ideology, not left or right.

"World Bank Whistleblower Reveals How The Global Elite Rules The World

First, corruption may hinder a country’s ability to absorb the benefits of globalization?which the IMF was set up to promote?by reducing foreign direct investment, for example. Second, while the IMF is put in charge of minimizing the risks associated with globalization and the likelihood of currency crises, corruption may make a country more vulnerable to the risks of a currency crisis. Therefore, lending support to anti-corruption efforts in the developing countries is very much consistent with the central mission of the IMF.

We have nothing to protect. How could we develop protectionism? Canada is a natural wasteland half of the year. We can't even make enough kids to replace our current population over the long haul. Anyone stupid enough to come live here deserves the slow but inevitable extinction it will get ;)

Left means authority or government.

Nationalism is a leftist measure because it is about the state, and requires government or some form of authority.

Right actually means liberty or freedom from authority.

Using an exaggerated example, this would be like eliminating states or nations altogether and having corporations (which actually serve consumers) run the world.

So how would you ckassify the following:

1. A protectionist state that is extremely free-market within its borders.

2. A free-trading state that promotes common educational, labour, packaging, labelling, phytosanitary, and other laws with other countries?

Many would say the first example is more right-leaning protectionist, the second left-leaning open-bordered.

You would have to find some way of measuring the autonomy of the state's peoples and its neighbours in either case. And you would have to account for how they arrive at that level of autonomy, whether it's from some kind of anarchy or through regulation that can actually foster autonomy.

I only bring this stuff up because Wally always talks about how much he hates gubmint, but will want a completely authoritative government which deports people he just doesn't like.
