I believe that the Party would meet to provide another candidate if the existing candidate dies before the election is held. It would be by a vote of the National Committee of either party.

From what I've read, it would be the same if the candidate dies between the election and the Electoral College vote, believe it or not.
Which really raises the intrigue/conspiracy theory idea. Have the election, if Trump wins, the party could do him in before the Electoral College votes, and then have their own choice appointed. (I only use Trump in this example because it seems that his own party doesn't like him, so it's a scenario with the tiniest bit of plausibility).

That is an excellent question. I would have to guess that the VP elect will take over.
It's an excellent answer to a question, but not the question JLM asked.

JLM, the answer is "there is no national standard for what would happen." The Constitution says "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress. . ." U.S. Const., Art. II, sec. 1, cl. 2.

This means that the electors are chosen as directed by state statute, and the electors choose the next President. In practice, the electors follow the popular vote in their states, but that can be changed at any time by the state legislature.

The question Smacky answered would be "What happens if the President-elect dies before taking office?" in which case his answer is correct. See U.S. Const., Amdt XX, sec. 3.

I'm wondering if it's a bonafide illness or perhaps the stress of the situation is taking a toll. I'm thinking we could hear any day now, she's suffered a nervous break down. She knows she's met her match with the Donald!

If you'll take note most presidents age dramatically the years they spend in office. I think it's the stress and Hillary has been in the pressure cooker of politics for some time.

The elections are a choice and a circus …
It’s in fact “normal” … the politicians are clowns …

Hillary didn't look very healthy today as her day wore on. Besides the coughing spells, she looked worn out and spoke disjointedly when answering questions from the press.
Acting like a vicious harridan as she does must be terribly tiring!

She's already looking like an idiot months before she's not likely to get it! :)
I'm not sure why anyone would want the job. Trump isn't the best orator himself. Tv personality has been his biggest claim to fame up until now. I think we've just simply run out of people we can look up to in this country.

I do like Judge Jeanine Pirro.
