I could care less what he was. All I really care about was that he was a kick azz Marine and an American who shot down many Japanese aircraft. So many that he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor because of it.

Watched " Saving Private Ryan " this morning. The part where the medic received his mortal wounds and called out for his mom particularly hit a chord with me. Brought to mind my step father Sam who use to show me the Purple Heart medal that he kept in the cedar chest as a memorial to his dad Sam Sr. who was shot down from the skys over Belgium in WW2. When Sam breathed his final breaths as he sucummed to brain cancer his final word was " mama".
