Consider the two-room shed where Theresa Fireman lives with her husband, their eldest son — who sleeps on the kitchen floor — and his 10-year-old daughter.

Although clean and tidy inside and well-heated, the dwelling lacks bathroom facilities and has no running water, a common plight in this town.

does nobody clean house anymore? I mean, wtf man.

I'm no municipal organizer but hey, there are about 1500 people living on the reserve and 11 councilors, a dep. chief and a chief for nearly 500K in salaries.

just as a comparison, meadow lake sask (pop. about 5,000) has only 5 councilors. or hornepayne ont. pop. 1500 with 4 councilors.

food for thought or even a hunger strike.

just seems a lot of slackers to administer 1500 rez people, and not very well from the looks of things.

We need to first, deal with the crisis at hand. Then we need to fix this bureaucratic mess.

Will Trudeau do the latter? Will the Chiefs cry foul? Man, I don't know, but we need change.
Bin there, done that. Until these people move to somewhere where they can actually be self-sufficient these situations will continually happen.

Charlie has been a real bright spot in all of this.

It's because of him that the issue is getting the necessary exposure that will lead to real change.

What I really love though, is when conbots get so angry at the Liberals, that they actually end up promoting the social agenda they are supposed to be against.

It's a thing of beauty.

There are No Non Crooks in the place-is this news to you?

Somebody beat you to that line.

Buying a home is not squandering money-what planet are you from anyway?

Guess it depends on the description of the home. I would agree with you if it can provide a minimum of space, warmth and shelter................if it's a $million mansion on British Properties my opinion might change.

It's the crooks who are largely responsible for those conditions not improving-should we give more money to the crooks hoping all will be well?

Because we both know it won't-ever.

How do you know this, Bill? Honestly now, have you been there?

Bin there, done that. Until these people move to somewhere where they can actually be self-sufficient these situations will continually happen.

Where do you propose we move them?

Meadow Lake Tribal Council are loaded. They industrialized and educate their band members.

I've been to Meadow Lake, nice community, but they are a lot closer to civilization.

Hey R.C.S. - People who have no desire to contribute never have a problem finding a reason. What they don't know is how quickly fortunes can change at the bat of an eye & they wind up being on the receiving end. None of us are immune! Something as simple as a stroke can do it to you!

If 62 of the richest people on earth has as much wealth as the bottom half of the planet. Let them help these people. Let billion dollar corp. help these people. Why do I, a middle class tax payer have to help these people, when I'm constantly performing economical wizardry to keep all my bills payed?

Why is it that I owe these people anything?

why do I have a moral responcibility, to help these people?

Dose the 62 richest people on earth have a moral responcibility?

Do the 62 richest people on earth who could give half of their wealth and still be the richest people on earth have any moral responcibility?

Or only dickheads that will work their *** off t'il the day they die like me have a moral responcibility ?

You have already stated that you are responsible for the position they are in. You have said that you are responsible for the "bad stuff" that has happened to them. Why shouldn't you pay to get them out of this mess?

So, what about this suicide thing? Should we overlook it (for say, a few more decades) until we get enough people behind cleaning up the bureaucracy

I was honestly born & raised in Northern Ontario so know the situation and the principals of old.

Chretien is right-shut her down & ship 'em out, maybe Kapuskasing, maybe Timmins, maybe even North Bay, but only momentous change can truly address the issues (not Kirkland Lake though that would be cruel & unusual punishment).

The reason so many people in Attawapiskat as so pissed @ Chretien is because their goose that lays golden eggs each month end is threatened-what if they had to compete with East Indians for jobs labouring on the ONTC section repairing the tracks in all weather instead of sitting @ home whining to each other about how hard they have it?

There isn't just Attawapskat. There's La Loche in Sask. Then Rae Edzo in the NWT. There are a great many Northern Communities in the same boat. Relocating is a pretty tall order and as much as Jean Chretien might like to shoot off about this, the logistical enormity of relocation and its after effects is a pretty tall order. What will the folks in Kapuskasing say if they get 1500 people dumped in their community?

Yes it is and they are the largest forestry corporation in SK and invested *** deep in minerals and O&G.

The antithesis of the alleged "keepers of the earth" like others try to make themselves out to be like the Haida Gwai Lo.

La Loche on the other hand.
