Trudeau's seven new senators are (clockwise, from left): Raymonde Gagné, Peter Harder, Frances Lankin, Ratna Omidvar, Chantal Petitclerc, André Pratte and Murray Sinclair.

You can check them out here: Justin Trudeau names seven new senators | Toronto Star

I am quite pleased to see Chantal Petitclerc join the Senate. I followed Chantal's career in sports over the years and came to have great admiration and respect for her.

Chantal is the holder of 21 medals won at Paralympic games - 14 of them are Gold. In 2004 she won 5 Gold medals which tied the record for most Gold won at a single games. In 2008 she tied her own record with another 5. She is a Campanion of the Order of Canada and the current Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Congratulations Chantal.

Don't want to "piss on your parade" Mowich, but is athletic prowess a prerequisite for being a Senator. I'd be much more concerned about whether she has a working brain.

It was much touted that none of the new senators had any political affiliation. Now really, who is the one of us that just fell off the turnip truck?

Never said she didn't! :) I know nothing about the woman, I'm just suspicious about politicians in general. :)

you know nothing about her, and yet you question whether she has a brain or not.

Wow, most intelligent people would do a little research and find out about a new appointee before commenting on the person. I guess the keyword here is intelligence. Something you have proven over and over again that you lack.

Things are different when your in the opposition. Only once you become part of the majority government, do you finally get to understand.

Part of the relativity our small brains can't seem to grasp.

You'd be an expert in that department dummy! When most people know nothing about a person, they generally 'dig' a little before just hiring them sight unseen.

... like Brazeau's?

Exactly! A stellar example of someone not doing his 'homework'! :)

I guess you missed the news item back in December about an advisory panel that would vet candidates for the Senate. They've had almost 4 months to 'dig' a little, JLM.

Sorry, I got a little side tracked here. Just didn't see athletic prowess as a criteria for being a senator. ( Not to take a thing away from athletes - I'm one myself.................win prizes at bowling) :)

and it shows how ignorant you are. Especially when you fixate on a woman, and a paraplegic, who is one of Canada's greatest athletes of, at least, this century. Someone who is an author, speaker, leader, humanitarian, and a member of the Paralympic Committee. Someone that puts you, and most of us, to shame with her positive attitude and fortitude.

What you have shown, in this little tirade of yours concerning this woman's "intelligence", is how petty and ignorant you truly are.

To get to where Chantal now is took more than the ability to power her wheelchair around a track. She is an amazing athlete but even more, she is an outstanding person and Canada is very lucky to number her among our own. :canada:
Not to worry, JLM...............I have been known to get sidetracked too. Now shape up.

More like how little faith most of us have in trudOWE doing something right instead of what is PC.

All I can see is one that could be considered a "partisan" appointment. They even have a member of the NDP being appointed.

There's no such thing as non-political. Senators have a vote same as everybody else. If they vote they vote for a party, therefore they are NOT non-partisian.

And by the way, do I see four women appointed and only three men? What happened to 'gender equality'?
