Labeled in all capital letters, one side of the card reads, “ELECTION ALERT,” “VOTER VIOLATION,” “PUBLIC RECORD,” and “FURTHER ACTION NEEDED.”
On the other side, in red letters at the top, the mailer states, “VOTING VIOLATION.” The text then reads:
“You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors’ are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday’s caucuses.”
Below, the letter listed the neighbors of the resident, along with their voting record, attempting to shame them in their own neighborhood.

he Cruz campaign has confirmed that these mailers were theirs.
Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed to
IJ Review that the mailer was theirs in a phone call Friday evening. He stated that the outreach was “very narrow, but the caucuses are important and we want people who haven’t voted before to vote.”
Red State also reported, “the Cruz campaign has confirmed these mailers are theirs and did send them out.”

- A person commits the crime of election misconduct in the first degree if the person willfully commits any of the following acts:

Duress. Intimidates, threatens, or coerces, or attempts to intimidate, threaten, or coerce, a person to do or to refrain from doing any of the following:
(1) To register to vote, to vote, or to attempt to register to vote.
(2) To urge or aid a person register to vote, to vote, or to attempt to register to vote.
(3) To sign a petition nominating a candidate for public office or a petition requesting an election for which a petition may be legally submitted.
(4) To exercise a right under chapters 39 through 53.
