Probably not if it means keeping liberals in power.

The catch on the STV position 'benefitting' from the middle-of-the-road vote is that any Party can now re-invent themselves to be just that.

Stupid proposition in my opinion, just leads to more political dishonesty and tone of broken promises.

Trudeau's STV vote is grossly unfair. It reduces Canada to a 2-Party system. It means that people who voted for the Green Party, the Bloc and the Conservatives would end up with no representative at all and would have to accept Liberal or NDP no matter how strongly they dislike them.
I think if this STV goes through, I just wouldn't vote at all.

Trudeau is interesting in a fairer electoral system, but only if it's "fairer" for Liberals.

The existing gvt hopes that there are a lot folks like you that simply give up.... Makes their job a helluva lot easier

How do you not 'simply give up'? If you are left with a choice of voting for the socialist party or the ultra socialist party you might as well give up.

It matters not a whit what 'Justin Trudeau' wants. We, the people, will have the final say. The PM is so willing to try and please everyone all the time, if a referendum is what we want, which I for one do, then we will get one.

Re: Does Justin Trudeau Want Fair Elections or Not?

The cries of unfairness, and about the evils of some electoral system that has not even been proposed yet, are hilarious. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau PC, MP, the Prime Minister, has not tabled a specific proposal to replace the first-past-the-post system; he has proposed neither single transferable vote, nor any other system. He has indicated a system that he prefers, but has acknowledged that the proposal to be tabled by the Government in the House of Commons at some future time must be shaped by a cross-country consultation process.

Would a cross-country consultation process be easier or cheaper than a referendum? I think not!
And with whom will the cross-country 'consulters' be consulting? No doubt with Liberal supporters who will go along with whatever their 'idol' proposes.
Trudeau has demonstrated so far in his mandate that he isn't interested in what 'the people' think or want. He is determined to have his way by whatever means it takes. His 'openness' and 'transparency' rhetoric is a sham.

Does Justin Trudeau Want Fair Elections or Not?

Prime Minster Justin Trudeau's election pledge (and subsequent confirmation) that Canada will not have another election under first-past-the-post has morphed into a growing controversy. Trudeau's evident attraction to one option for electoral reform -- the so-called preferential ballot, or single transferrable vote (STV) -- and his stated opposition to proportional representation has some analysts and commentators smelling a rat.

I think the Prime Minister should be totally removed from the equation. Set up a separate panel of preferably non political people or at the very least a panel comprised of members of ALL political parties.

Just leave well enough alone and keep it exactly as we have it now.

Re: How would you vote among the following choices in an electoral reform referendum?

Mixed member proportional is the way to go.

You get proper representation not only federally, but locally as well.

Anything with a ranking system is too much of a mind game and would just dissuade voters from going to the ballot box.
