The answer is simple: No.
Some other reason would take it's place, be it another religion, race or idea.
The hard part to answer IS the 'what to do about them' part.
We can't let them go through the growing pains that Christianity did, too much of the world would be destroyed, too many lives would be lost.
We can't fight them like we are now and expect to beat them, because the extremists are doing what they're doing because of an Idea, a Belief, a Faith and that's not something you can physically kill.
We can't do what might help lead towards a solution because too many people are making money off of this, too many people don't want to do the work to end this and too many people just really don't give a damn because it's the Middle East and "not here".
Education, sympathy, humanity, compassion; yeah it won't change them all, but it just might change some, or enough, for the idea to spread.
Ironically how their book and Christianity's own book says we should all be like. Imagine if people actually did what their prophet's said to do.
