Canada's Economic Action Plan

This website cost taxpayers 26 Million.

$4000 in "Federal Grants" for individuals to complete a trade degree... Sounds good; in theory, but I know tradesmen without jobs and $4000 doesn't go far at all in Canada.

Russia gives people $6,787.70 to have a second kid and the CPI in Russia is a lot cheaper; to that end, a bottle of Vodka is $2 in Russia and $25 in Canada - so Russia really gives people the equivalent of $85,000 to have a kid and having a baby boom (which Russia is having at the moment) will stimulate the economy more than having unemployed tradesmen with $4,000 in beer money.

I'm guessing this is all supposed to be a confidence boost and nothing more. I think we have to contend with the fact that the U.S. is slipping and we're the mouse on the sinking boat.

If Harper did care about the economy and all the unemployed; including the double digit youth unemployment, he would order a massive devaluation to make our exports cheaper and generate jobs at home.

But of course, we can't expect a response from Iggy or Layton as they're too busy drinking at party functions to step up and do their job as Canada's opposition!

Russian Standard is good but there's something wrong when people are willing to purchase a $26 bottle of imported Russian Gold Standard over a $22 bottle of Alberta Pure... and then I know people who refuse to buy anything but the $36 bottle of French Grey Goose.

That's the big summarization of the North American continent, we can't compete with the cheapness of China / Russia nor the quality of Europe and our economy is dying as a result. The U.S., in particular is obsessed with maintaining the strength of the U.S. Dollar; when at the same time there are millions unemployed because their former factories had to close because they couldn't compete with cheaper Chinese goods.

That said, everything in Canada is still more expensive than in the states and even in certain European countries. Food, consumergoods, liquor, cars; et al, are all cheaper in America.

So... No money is a better solution than $4000?

You gotta be kidding. You use vodka-economics to determine the value of the Russian contribution per child is a direct measure of the 2 nations? Tell ya what, relocate to Russia a and have 3 kids, it'd be like getting $255,000. You could make a career of spitting out babies.

You'd be wise to check-out the standard of living, social safety net(s) and overall (national) economic status of Russia before you rush off and use such unbelievable economic comparisons.

Exactly how do you order a devaluation when Canada trades on the global markets?

I don't live on a farm and there's only so much room in my apartment for a potato distiller!

For what seemed like forever, they were the ads we couldn't get away from. The Con's porky Economic Action Plan ads coming at us from every direction twenty-four seven.

Trying to brainwash us into believing that the Cons knew what they were doing. And that Stephen Harper was a Great Economist Leader.

So I'm glad to see that ghastly hog has finally expired. (link is external)

That plan built bridges, cultural centres.

You know, infrastructure.

I can only imagine how much that must upset you.

Canada's deputy ministers got some of the highest average bonuses in more than a decade in the months leading up to the last federal election, according to government data published online.

The average bonus handed out to deputy ministers for 2014-15 by then prime minister Stephen Harper's government was $21,211 — the highest average amount since 2003-04.

The bonuses come on top of an average cheque for so-called "at risk" pay of $47,942.

An analysis of Treasury Board and Privy Council Office data shows that, overall, bonuses for deputy ministers have risen 109 per cent since 2003-04, while "at risk" pay is up 164 per cent.

Traditionally, the government has argued it needs to offer performance pay to attract the best and the brightest into public service.

Those who perform to the level expected get "at risk" pay — a term that reflects the fact that they risk not receiving it if their performance is unsatisfactory. Bonuses then go to those who perform above and beyond expectations.

Base salaries for deputy ministers in 2015 ranged from $192,600 to $326,500.

When it comes to doling out performance pay, deputy ministers and executives are evaluated on how successful they have been in running their own departments and in implementing the objective set by the government.

In 2014-15, the objective was successfully implementing the Harper government's cost-cutting plan.
