OMG! We’re ruined! Alberta’s fiscal future is down the toilet! Bob Rae, Bob Rae, Bob Rae! Aaarggghhhh! Deficit! Debt! Doom! Pass the smelling salts! Our great-grandchildren who don’t even exist — what will they think of us?

Notley inherited a huge mess and she could either perpetuate the mess or fix it. She has wisely opted to fix it. Let’s not forget that the new Tom Baker centre was promised to Calgarians by successive Tory governments who dithered on it for a decade. Notley is going to build it.

Remember those heady days when Ralph Klein was crowing about slaying the debt? At what cost, fellow Albertans? Did amnesia arrive along with the flu this fall? It was at the cost of schools, health care, infrastructure maintenance and construction, and services to the most vulnerable — children, the sick, the elderly, the disabled and the poor.

All Klein did when he cut back spending and services to slay the debt was to lay the groundwork for the catch-up game the Notley government must now play. Klein wasn’t leaving a debt-free paradise to future generations; he was leaving them a province in which deep cuts to services and spending were going to hamstring them in terms of education, timely health care and crumbling infrastructure.

As Finance Minister Joe Ceci: “We believe Albertans want their services, their hospitals, their schools, their human services protected. To do that … it’s going to take some borrowing …”

Typical Dipper, blame somebody who is dead and hasn't been in power for more than a decade.

The point is correct regardless of the source.

Had successive Conservative governments governed with logic and an eye to the future as opposed to dogma and how high on the hog we can live today, Alberta would not be in such a predicament. Pathetically, those same believers will now blame all this on the NDP and whine about the evils of Socialism.

Also, it should be noted that Brad Wall did the same thing in Saskatchewan and they are now running deficits as well.

Today's cut services are tomorrow's deficits and the day after tomorrow's taxes.

So basically, blame Conservatives for increases in taxes.

No. The NDP and Lieberals come in and start mega government projects which most sensible people know are a huge waste of money and resources and they tend to rack up the deficit. The NDP and the Lieberals are the ones to blame for tax hikes. Also note that Klien would have been dealing with a federal government under Martin as finance minister which was cutting funding to the provinces (for healthcare and education) across the board which is what actually caused a lot of provincial cuts in services in all provinces. So if you are going to point a finger at anybody but the current government, point it at Mr. Martin (a well known Lieberal).

Why waste any time in a back and forth with Flossy?

Left-tard logic is unique in and among itself

In Flossy's fantasy world where Klein is to blame for all the ails of society, it is also factual that Sask are running deficits as well.

Sure, the truth be damned, but again, this is reality in Flossy-World

Sask is the last honest have-province still standing... Ironically, AB, by virtue of the new debt and deficit qualifies as a have-not and bumps Ontario into a position where they will receive fewer equalization dollars because of it.

A crappy situation to be sure, but I can't help but chuckle when I think of Flossy and his previous pissing and moaning about Dutch Disease

The SK tulip harvest was pretty good this year. Flossy needs to come visitSK to observe the big money, barley, Angus beef grazing and living in harmony with gas and oil wells and whirly gigs in one very nice scenic view.
